Hope is given to the families of Israeli andPalestinian hostages when the war is paused

The Status of a Free Gaza Strip Hostage Agreement with Hamas in the Light of the Israeli-Israeli Correspondence

Israel’s acceptance of the terms of a hostage deal with Hamas late on Tuesday reflected the intense pressure brought by the Biden administration to reach an agreement that would allow some of those held by the armed group to be freed.

The initial approval of the deal by the Israeli cabinet came after a “secret cell” of top aides to President Biden worked furiously over the past several weeks on a web of negotiations involving Qatar, Egypt and Israel, an effort hampered by communications outages in Gaza and a series of last-minute disputes that derailed the talks.

According to officials, the president was willing to put pressure on his counterpart because Mr. Biden made the case with increased importance to Mr. Netanyahu after the Hamas attacks. Mr. Biden’s initial full-throated embrace of Israel’s right to defend itself in the hours after the Oct. 7 attacks has evolved into repeated calls for restraint by the Israeli forces in Gaza.

Mr Netanyahu has always refused to consider a large-scale halt in Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip unless the hostages are released.

President Biden said in a statement that he and first lady have been keeping all those held hostage and their loved ones close to their hearts, and that he is pleased that some of them have experienced a lot of hardship.

At least 10 Israelis are freed each day during the four-day cease-fire, according to the deal. The Palestinians prisoners would be freed over the same period.

The war in Gaza has been going on for more than six weeks and has claimed the lives of hundreds of people. More than 12,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s bombardments on Gaza, according to the latest data from the Gaza health ministry.

In accordance with Israeli law, the names of the Palestinian prisoners that will be released were published early Wednesday. A group of Israelis representing victims of Palestinian attacks filed a petition to block the deal. The court, however, is not expected to intervene.

On the list are 33 women and the remainder are teenage boys aged 14-18. Some have been charged with offenses such as stone-throwing and have been arrested by Israeli forces in recent years. Most are detainees awaiting trial on charges including incitement, stone-throwing and attempted murder. Some are being held in “administrative detention,” a detention without charge or trial.

Hamas should release all the hostages immediately, as holding people as hostages is illegal and a war crime. But it is appropriate that Israel release prisoners and detainees to advance this goal,” said Jessica Montell, executive director of the Israeli human rights group HaMoked, which provides legal aid to Palestinians.

Israel’s army promised to give him advance notice of the release of his wife Sharon and daughter Noam, according to the Israeli comedy writer who is in Gaza with his wife and daughter.

Yousef Afghani was surprised to see that his daughter was on a list of prisoners that Israel is prepared to release. She has served seven years of her 15-year sentence, convicted for an attempted 2016 stabbing in which no one was wounded. Her father told NPR she was carrying a knife but denied she attempted a stabbing.

“My feelings are the feelings of any father. Afghani told NPR that there was celebration and happiness. The deal to release his daughter from captivity in Gaza was condemned by him as well as the kidnapping of Israelis. “We are against any kind of attack against civilians.”

Meanwhile, in Rome, Pope Francis met separately with Israeli relatives of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, and families of Palestinians held in Israel. In unscripted remarks afterward, Francis said he felt “both sides are suffering,” but that the conflict had “gone beyond war. This isn’t war, it’s terrorism.

foreigners from more than one country are believed to be held by Hamas. The Thai farm laborers were seized near the Gaza border. Fox says she understands that the Thais are not part of the exchange deal.

The Channel 12 news said the deal allows significant humanitarian aid into Gaza, including desperately needed fuel to run generators, which are the only source of electricity in the territory. Since Israel launched airstrikes and a subsequent ground invasion of Gaza after last month’s Hamas attack, the territory’s 2.2 million people have experienced dire shortages of food, water and medical supplies. The trucks carrying aid would be allowed to enter the Gaza Strip by Hamas.

Hamas, Biden, and Al-Sisisi: Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, and their role in negotiating a peace agreement

Biden thanked the Prime Minister of Qatar and Egypt for their help in brokering the deal.

Al Thani hopes the humanitarian truce can help stop the war machine and bloodshed. El-Sisi said Egypt would continue “efforts made to reach final and sustainable solutions that achieve justice, impose peace, and guarantee the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.”
