The iPad Pro is really thin, I had a hands-on with it

Procreate Dreams: Using the Procreate Pencil to Recognize Misplaced Surfaces, Disk Retention, and Discover My Device Location System

The Apple Pencil Pro has advanced features over its predecessor, like a squeeze gesture similar to the stem of the Apple AirPods Pro 2, which brings up a new palettes for quickly switch between different tools, colors, and line weights.

App developers can also create their own custom interactions for the Apple Pencil Pro. The barrel roll feature and the squeeze feature are just a few examples of brushes that respond in entirely new ways according to Procreate CEO James Cuda. The Barrel Roll feature also allows animators to move and rotate objects at the same time while recording actions in Procreate Dreams.

Adding support for Apple’s Find My device location system is an upgrade for scatterbrained users who often misplace their stylus. It’s easy to misplace a slim, pencil-shaped device, and I know firsthand how frustrating and expensive it is to replace an Apple Pencil that inevitably turns up months later after you’ve already torn your home apart looking for it.

The Mid-range Power of the New iPad Pro: An Upgrade to the M2 or an M4 Chip? The Case of the Purple iPad Air

The iPad Air and iPad Pro both come with older M2 processor, while the new iPad Pro uses Apple’s M4 chip. The new iPad Pro offers half the performance of the previous iPad Pro, which is likely to be the M2-equipped iPad Air as well. When you upgrade to the 1 terabytes version, you will get a faster 10-core M4 chip, which is the first time Apple has offered a processor upgrade for a specific iPad model. Despite the increased power, however, Apple says the new M4 processor actually uses half the power of the last-gen M2.

The iPad Air was characterized as a budget device that gets an upgrade to Pro features in order to be used by a larger audience than the entry-level iPad. So, midrange. Is that what Air means right now?

We were also reassured by the fact that the iPad Air comes in purple. If we are feeling generous, it is pretty much a lilac. (I’ve already had my beef with Apple over its definition of “purple,” but I’m still sore about it.) The heavier, thicker iPad the Air was just missed the mark by Apple. I recognize that, with the iPad Airs, we’re talking hundredths to tenths of a pound. I’m quibbling over, at most, a millimeter of thickness. The average person will probably not notice much in person. The principle is that of the matter.

For the first time, the iPad Pro comes with a crisper, more vibrant OLED display. The 11-inch and 13-inch versions of iPad Pro have thinner profiles, measuring just 5.3mm and 5.1mm, respectively.

If you stick with the 512GB and 256Buffer storage tiers, you won’t lose much processing power. Both versions of the chip feature a 10-core GPU, the same memory bandwidth of 120GB/s, and each supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing. With six efficiency cores, you wouldn’t notice much difference in the way you use your tablets.

The whole thing is powered by the M4 chip. We will have to see. The iPad has more than enough power for many uses, and the M4 is meant to power use cases like Final Cut Pro or Procreate, which are more advanced artistic features. It was very fast in the demo. The iPad is always very fast.

Preordering the 11-inch iPad Air from Apple at the 2017 Let Loose Event: An Overview of Features, Software, and Performance Tests

Apple is launching a new app called Final Cut Camera, which is specifically built to support live multicamera production. The app syncs with the updated Final Cut Pro app and lets users “connect multiple iPhones or iPads to capture additional angles during a live multicam shoot or record professional video.”

The function keys are at the top, which will make it more useful in general. We will have to wait for Apple to improve the trackpad in its operating system, though, as iPadOS is not a great operating system for it.

Starting today, you can preorder the 11-inch iPad Air directly from Apple. It begins at $599 for the base model with 128GB of storage but you can also choose to go to a higher amount of storage like 512, 512, or 1 pound for $1,099. You can get the 11-inch Air with 5G radios starting at $749 for a 128GB model, $849 for 256GB, $1,049 for 512GB, and $1,249 for 1TB.

Along with improved CPU performance, the M4 model delivers a more powerful Neural Engine that Apple says is 60 times faster than the first one it introduced in the A11 Bionic model in 2017. It’s also capable of 38 trillion operators per second (TOPS), which refers to the number of math calculations it can solve per second. We are yet to give the tablet a whirl, but it is less powerful than the 45 TOPS chip coming to Windows laptops soon.

New features for the Logic Pro audio workstation include a virtual bass player and keyboard player.

Apple just wrapped up its “Let Loose” event, where it showed off the newest additions to its iPad lineup in nearly two years. But the event had more than just iPads — we also got a first look at some refreshed accessories and updated software.

The iPad Pro’s crisp OLED display also allows for better contrast and deeper black levels than the LED display on the new iPad Air. This means iPad Pro owners will no longer have to deal with bloom, where the light from bright on- screen objects can cause dark areas to appear. And with the nano-texture glass options available for the 1TB and 2TB models, iPad Pro owners should also encounter less glare.

It’s such a big difference that the larger model, which I’ve always felt was kind of preposterously huge, feels much more comfortable to hold and use. It is now up to 13 inches larger than before. You can tell the difference between the Pro and the new Air from practically across the room, and as someone who has carried around an 11-inch Pro for the last year and a half, it’s really a big difference. The biggest question I have for now is about fragility: is the new Pro potentially too thin? There are tradeoffs with a device of this nature as it feels rigid and sturdy in my hands. We have lots of testing to do.

Both sizes are available in silver or space gray. If you want to add glass at checkout, you have to purchase a 1 or 2 tb model. The upgraded glass made for a $100 premium will reduce screen reflectivity, ambient light and glare, making it easier to do creative work in brighter conditions.

To help you make an informed choice, we have compared the raw specs of both and highlighted the major differences so you can make an informed decision. We will soon be publishing our full reviews of both tablets, so if you want to know more, be sure to check back.
