Attorneys advised Trump to cancel the press conference

Trump’s latest indictment in Fulton County, Georgia, is designed to subvert the results of a presidential election to cling to power

And a federal judge in Florida has set a May 20 trial date on charges, also brought by Smith and his team, that Trump illegally hoarded classified documents and concealed them from investigators.

The question is ultimately up to U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is expected to set at least a tentative trial date during an Aug. 28 court hearing.

Trump’s lawyers argue in a court filing that the delays are necessary due to the massive amount of information, and because of scheduling conflicts with other criminal cases.

They said they would have to review 100,000 pages per day to make sure they are in time for jury selection.

If we were to print and stack more than 10 million sheets of paper, there would be a tower of paper over 5,000 feet high in the sky. The defense lawyers written that it is eight times taller than the Washington Monument, with almost a million pages to spare.

They also contend that the case concerns unprecedented questions that will take time to sort out. The indictment accusesTrump of trying to subvert the results of the election so he could cling to power.

“No president has ever been charged with a crime for conduct committed while in office. No presidential candidate has ever been charged during the course of their campaign because the Justice Department would never serve their opponent. “These and many other issues require significant time for both sides to consider and brief the issues, and for the Court to resolve them.”

He is confronting both a presidential primary season and four criminal cases in four different cities. He’s going to be on trial in New York state for an alleged payment to a porn actor. A March 4 trial date has been proposed by prosecutors in Fulton County, Georgia, where Trump was charged this week with scheming to undermine the results of that state’s presidential election.

Trump had announced that he would be holding the event hours after a Georgia grand jury voted to charge him and others late Monday in what they allege was a sweeping conspiracy to illegally overturn the results of the 2020 election and stop the peaceful transition of power.

In Georgia, the state at the center of his latest indictment, three recounts were conducted after the election — each of which confirmed his loss to Biden.

He had said he would use the “major News Conference” at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club Monday morning to release what he claimed was an “almost complete” report that would exonerate him.

Advisers have urged the former president to spend more time planning for the future, as he runs for reelection and more time airing his grievances about the 2020 election. It is alienating more moderate and independent voters and is also criticized by long standing Trump supporters who say it’s time to move on.

But the cases against him have dramatically raised the stakes. The federal judge who oversaw the election conspiracy case in Washington warned Donald Trump that he can’t say much about the investigation as he campaigns for another term in office.

The judge said that the more “inflammatory” statements are made about the case, the greater her urgency will be to move quickly to trial to prevent witness intimidation or jury pool contamination.

Still, Trump has made clear that he sees the cases brought against him in Georgia and Washington as an opportunity to try to relitigate his false claims.

Governor Kemp of Georgia criticized Trump’s renewed attacks on Georgia’s vote this week, which was part of his efforts to overturn his loss in the battleground state.
