Evidence points to the strikes on the largest hospital in Gaza
Israeli munitions and weaponry in the siege of Al-Shifa: Israel’s counterclaim that Hamas is operating from military facilities in Gaza
The first of at least four strikes took place during the following two hours on different sections of the complex. Al-Shifa’s director, Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, said in a phone interview that seven people had been killed and several others had been wounded.
Israel’s assertion that Al-Shifa was actually hit by a Palestinian projectile echoed similar — and unresolved — claims and counterclaims following munitions that hit the courtyard of another Gaza hospital, Al-Ahli, nearly a month ago.
According to pictures of weapons fragments collected and verified by the New York Times, three of the projectiles appear to be Israeli weaponry.
Israel says that Hamas is operating from military facilities underneath some of the hospitals it focuses on in Gaza.
In addition to the weapons remnants, an analysis of video footage shows that three of the projectiles were fired into the hospital from the north and south, contrary to the western trajectory indicated on a map released by the I.D.F., which it said was based on radar detections. Satellite images showed that there were I.D.F. positions north and south of the hospital.
The ministry of health said that 170 bodies were buried in a mass grave in the hospital courtyard because of the siege.
Hamas militants in Gaza: the ongoing battle against Israel and the Gazan army triggered by sniper attack on the Gaza hospital, as reported by state media
“Our staff is saying there is no electricity,” said Paul Caney, the group’s emergency coordinator. “People are staying in the corridors because of sniper fire near the windows and that they cannot move any of the patients to ambulances.”
The ministry of health in Gaza said that more than 11, 200 Palestinians have died there. As Israel continues its siege on the region in response to the attacks on it by Hamas, officials are reporting a rising death toll. However, the health officials said there have been challenges in updating the tally for the third day in a row due to service and communication disruptions.
The continued fighting has made hospital crowded for injured patients and displaced people who fear getting trapped in the south.
Gaza health officials said the basement was “included in the design of the hospital and includes the administration and hospital stores. It has become a shelter place for displaced people fleeing the bombing to take shelter inside the hospital.”
“By the end of today, around 70 per cent of people in Gaza will not have clean water. Lazzarini said the key services have ceased to operate.
This comes after weeks of UNRWA and other aid groups begging for fuel to be let in and only after several hospitals, including Al-Shifa, reported they lost power after running out of fuel to run their generators, leading to the death of some patients.
Weapons and other equipment used by the militant group Hamas were discovered by the Israeli military in a major hospital complex in Gaza City.
A senior defense official told the media that four Hamas terrorists were killed in a clash with Israeli troops on the street outside a hospital.

The official said troops then entered before dawn Wednesday, local time, to search a specific part of the hospital complex, which he did not name. The official did not give any details about the weapons found there.
Hamas denounced the actions by the Israeli military early Wednesday and it denied the assertion by the Israeli military and U.S. officials that militants were embedded in the hospital.
After weeks of restrictions from Israel, more than 23,000 liters of fuel were allowed into Gaza on Wednesday.
