“My understanding is members of the public did intervene at a very, very early stage and we would applaud those members of the public for getting involved in such a traumatic and potentially dangerous situation for themselves,” Geraghty said.
Police said a man in his 50s is a person of interest in their investigation. No other details about his identity were revealed.
Geraghty wouldn’t say how many people were injured, but said that a knife was used in the attack. He confirmed that witnesses tried to disarm the man when they saw what was happening.
He said that police believe that it was “a standalone incident, not necessarily connected to any wider issues that are ongoing in the country or in the city, and we need to identify the exact reasons for that happening.”
A woman in her 30s was critically injured during the knife attack. The two other children, a 5-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl, sustained less serious injuries. The boy was out of the hospital.

Ireland’s top police officer has uncovered a complete lunatic hooligan group that is driven by far-right ideology and is engaging in serious violence
That appeared to be a slight change in stance from earlier, when Superintendent Liam Geraghty said police were keeping an open mind in terms of the investigation but were “satisfied there is no terrorist link.”
Justice Minister Helen Mc Entee said that scenes in the city center would not be accepted. A thuggish and manipulative element must be prevented from using a tragedy to wreak havoc.
Drew Harris said that Ireland’s top police officer has found a complete lunatic hooligan group that is driven by far-right ideology and engaged in serious violence.
Shop windows were routinely smashed and a Foot Locker store was looted. All public transport in the city — trams and buses — was suspended and many firms have urged their staff to work from home on Friday.
While some demonstrators let off flares and fireworks, others grabbed chairs and stools outside bars and restaurants, and clashed with riot police.
More than 400 officers, including many in riot gear, were deployed throughout the city center to contain the violence. A cordon was set up around the Irish Parliament building, Leinster House, and mounted officers were dispatched to nearby Grafton Street.
The Dublin riots against migrant children: an example of how Brazilians have attacked the Irish people, and how they’ve abused them
A 5-year-old girl was in critical condition at a Dublin hospital and a teacher’s aide was in serious condition, police said. The girl is still receiving treatment for less serious injuries and the other child was discharged overnight. The man who was tackled by witnesses is in serious condition.
Vehicles were burned and riot police were attacked, after a young girl was critically injured in a knife attack in central Dublin, and a woman and two other children were hospitalized.
He doesn’t have an opinion about politics in the area, but he’s been here for 20 years. I know that the protest is against immigrants and I am one of them, so it doesn’t make sense to me. It doesn’t make sense to me.
Benicio believed the trouble was caused by a “tiny group of people” who wanted an excuse to do it.
One of them was Caio Benicio, a Brazilian delivery driver who stopped when he saw the teacher’s aide trying to save the children. He ripped off his helmet and hit the attacker with all his strength.
I don’t want to lose focus on the terrible event of the horrible assault on schools and teachers. There’s a full investigation going on. There’s also a full investigation in respect on the disorder.”
The riots are scenes that we have not seen in decades, and what is certain is that people have been radicalized through social media and the internet.
“We should always see the bigger picture when it comes to this matter, we’re facing a major refugee crisis across Europe and we should never lose sight of that,” he said in May.
When he was questioned about anti-immigration tensions earlier this year, Varadkar told Ireland’s parliament that there was always a place for peaceful protest, but violence, intimidation and racism were never legitimate.
Ireland’s Prime Minister Condemns Anti-Immigrant rioters in Dublin: “Ireland is full” and “the rule of law”
Ireland received more than 141,000 immigrants in the 12 months through April, the highest total since 2007, the latest government statistics show. Over the past 11 years, Ireland has seen an 11.7% increase in population, and a steady increase in housing prices.
An analysis of more than 13 million social media posts over the past three years found that right-wing groups were increasingly using platforms such as X, formerly known as Twitter, to stir up opposition to immigration. Recent activity has characterized the refugees and asylum-seekers as an “existential threat to Ireland,” according to a report from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, a London-based group that seeks to combat extremism.
Tensions over immigration mirror trends in other parts of Europe, as evidenced by Thursday’s unrest. Earlier this year, people carrying signs reading “Ireland is full” demonstrated in Dublin, and protesters blockaded a hotel housing asylum-seekers in County Clare on the west coast.
Varadkar told reporters on Friday morning that the criminals did not do what they did because of love for Ireland or their desire to protect Irish people, but out of warped patriotism. “They did so because they’re filled with hate, they love violence, they love chaos and they love causing pain to others.”
Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said Ireland’s capital had endured two attacks, one on innocent children and the other on “our society and the rule of law.”
The violence began after rumors circulated that a foreign national was responsible for the attack outside a Dublin school on Thursday afternoon. Authorities haven’t disclosed the suspect’s nationality.

Police arrested 34 people after the rioting when up to 500 people looted shops, set cars ablaze and threw rocks at crowd control officers.
Police made a number of further arrests on Friday evening as they mounted a significant security operation in Dublin to ensure that there was no repeat of Thursday’s disorder. A number of people were taken away in police vans following sporadic altercations.
LONDON — Ireland’s prime minister on Friday condemned anti-immigrant protesters who rampaged through central Dublin after three young children were stabbed, saying the rioters simply wanted to cause chaos, not protect the country’s way of life.
