While some Democrats said he should drop out of the race, President Biden was in Pennsylvania on Sunday as he tried to resurrect his reelection bid.

Biden, 81, has said that “the Lord Almighty” could convince him to step back from his campaign for a second term after he badly faltered in a debate with former President Donald Trump — a performance that alarmed Democrats worried that he no longer has what it takes to run, win and govern.

He has been trying to demonstrate that his debate flub was just one bad night and not a sign of something more serious. At the Mount Airy Church of God in Christ, a praise band belted out the worship song, “I need you to survive,” and the bishop urged unity.

“Forgive us for allowing the enemy to drive wedges between us,” Felton prayed. “If we ever unite and come together there is no election that we cannot win.”

Later, Biden stopped at a campaign field office where he gave some high-energy unscripted remarks about economic issues important to voters, like grocery and insulin prices.

“Dark Brandon’s coming back,” Biden said to the group of about 150 cheering volunteers — referring a superhero-like meme his campaign uses to mock his opponents. “And guess what: in the next 120-some days or so, they are going to get a real good look at who Donald Trump is,” he said.

Biden was flanked by some of his Democratic friends. “There is only one person in the country that’s ever kicked Trump’s ass in an election —and that is your president,” Fetterman said. ” He is going to do it twice.”

Democratic leaders in the House were convening a virtual meeting on Sunday with the top Democrats on House committees. Some appeared on Sunday morning political talk shows, reflecting the range of opinions within the party about whether Biden should stay at the top of the ticket.

He gave it the best college try, but it wasn’t the only thing that mattered, he told NBC’s Meet the Press. He also said he thinks Vice President Harris could beat Trump if Biden decides to step back.

But Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Mich., said she is heard from voters during the Independence Day break that Biden should stay in. “I had people in parades shout at me, ‘Tell him to stay — we have his back,'” she told CNN’s State of the Union. “I really do think that as much as you’re hearing a lot of different opinions from other people, that’s what’s happening,” she said.

Alex stated that he had spoken with Biden on Saturday. The president talked about what he saw in polling data and what he was going to do in the next few days. “He is as eager as I’ve seen him to take this campaign seriously and I’m confident he will,” Padilla told MSNBC.

As lawmakers return to Congress and world leaders go to the city for a NATO summit, Vice President Biden will be faced with grilling about his age and abilities at a rare solo press conference.

In Ann Arbor, Mich., Tom Brush called the current state of the Democratic race “a sad moment,” explaining he doubts whether Biden can make it through the election and had hoped the president would voluntarily step aside for the good of the party — perhaps for Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

In an interview at his home, Brush said that people can reach a stage in their life when they aren’t as important as they were.

The intervening days have offered little comfort to people who believed the president failed to communicate during the debate.

Donald Trump is running for a second term, which poses a grave threat to our democracy. Mr. Biden, instead of campaigning vigorously to disprove doubts and demonstrate that he can beat Mr. Trump, has maintained a scripted and controlled schedule of public appearances. He has mostly avoided taking questions from voters or journalists because they show his limitations and cause him so much trouble on the debate stage. And when he has cast aside his teleprompter, most notably during a 22-minute interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on Friday, he has continued to appear as a man in decline.

He said in a social media post that Joe Biden is who the country needs and that his presidency has laid the foundation for a more perfect union. Mr. Clyburn gave Mr. Biden his endorsement four years ago, and the result is that he won his first term.

Mr. Clyburn caused some hand-wringing among Democrats last week when he discussed the possibility of a “mini-primary“ to replace Mr. Biden before the Democratic National Convention next month should he withdraw from the race. But he quickly moved to clarify that he considered the idea strictly hypothetical.

As President Biden watches his support among some key Democrats in Congress quietly crumble, one group has emerged as a vocal base of support on Capitol Hill: Black lawmakers, particularly older ones.

“The reality is Joe Biden has confronted and had to come back from tragedy, from trials, from tribulations throughout his entire life,” Mr. Jeffries said during an interview with MSNBC. “So the moment that we’re in right now is a comeback moment.”

The Biden campaign has taken solace in the fact that Black Democrats, who are an influential force on Capitol Hill and in the party, are supporting them at a bad time. On Sunday, it chose a Black church in Philadelphia as the backdrop for Mr. Biden to make his case.

Vice President Joe Biden told the congregation at Mount Airy Church of God in Christ in Philadelphia that he was more optimistic about America’s future if we stick together.

Ms. Waters was also one of the few top Democrats who spoke up for the president during a high-level virtual meeting on Sunday in which several ranking members of key committees privately said he needed to withdraw from the race, according to people who attended and were briefed on the session. Representative David Scott of Georgia, another senior member of the Black Caucus, also spoke in favor of Mr. Biden, the people said.

Representative Waters of California made a point at the New Orleans festival over the weekend that there will not be any other Democrats running. It is going to be Biden.

The choice for American leadership is clear, Representative Joyce Beatty of Ohio, a former chairwoman of the Black Caucus, said in a social media post late Sunday, lauding Mr. Biden’s record as a defender of democracy.

Boeing has agreed to plead guilty to a criminal fraud charge stemming from two fatal 737 Max crashes in 2018 and 2019, the Justice Department said in a court filing on Sunday. As part of the plea deal, Boeing will pay a $243.6 million fine, invest upwards of $450 million toward safety and compliance programs and be on probation for three years.

The far-right party had a good chance of getting a majority after a lot of voters participated in the elections. The country saw a 67% voter turnout.

Beryl made landfall in Texas this morning as a Category 1 Hurricane, the National Hurricane Center said in its 5:00 a.m. ET update. More than 100 counties are under a state disaster declaration, and Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said yesterday more may be added. More than 2,500 responders have been dispatched across the state.

Indigenous arts and culture from across Latin America were on display at this year’s Smithsonian Folklife Festival. The Latin American contingent at the festival had artists singing and painting and a skateboarding crew with all-female members who shared their stories and expertise with onlookers like 2-year- old first-time skateboarder Poppy Moore. One of the artists met by the NPR team was Ubaldo Sanchez. Biden sounded upset during his MSNBC conversation. He dismissed calls from prominent Democrats for him to withdraw from the race, saying: “I don’t care what those big names think,” adding he was getting “frustrated .. by the elites in the party.”

He referred to voter support in recent campaign stops. “I’m getting so frustrated by the elites… in the party who ‘they know so much more.’ But if any of these guys don’t think I should run, run against me. Go ahead. They will announce for president. Place a challenge on me at the convention.

He said the voters of the Democratic party had spoken and it was up to them to decide, not the media or pundits.

“This was a process open to anyone who wanted run. Only three people chose to challenge me. One fared so badly that he left the primaries to run as an independent. Another attacked me for being too told and was soundly defeated,” he said, apparently referring to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., respectively.
