Some Democrats are pleading for Biden to abandon his campaign in Pennsylvania

In an interview with ABC on Friday Biden insisted he would remain in the race, and defended his record. Asked whether he would stand down if he could be convinced that you cannot defeat Trump, Biden was defiant: “Well, it depends if the Lord Almighty comes down and tells me that — I might do that.”

He tried to show that his debate flub was not a sign of something serious by showing it was just one bad night. The praise band belted out the worship song “I need you to survive” while Biden was in attendance at the Mount Airy Church of God in Christ.

“We have allowed the enemy to drive wedges between us, forgiveness is required,”Felton prayed. If we ever lock arms, there’s no election that we can’t win.

Later, Biden stopped at a campaign field office where he gave some high-energy unscripted remarks about economic issues important to voters, like grocery and insulin prices.

“Dark Brandon’s coming back,” Biden said to the group of about 150 cheering volunteers — referring a superhero-like meme his campaign uses to mock his opponents. He said that they will get a good look at Donald Trump in the next 120 or so days.

Biden was accompanied by at least two other people. Fetterman said that only one person in the country has kicked Trump’s ass in an election. He is going to do it twice.

The Democrats in the House had an opportunity to convene before they return to Capitol Hill on Monday. As members wrestle with the future of a president and party, top leaders have avoided taking a position on Biden’s future.

“This is more than just whether he gave it the best college try, but whether he made the right decision to run or not,” he told NBC’s Meet the Press. He said Vice President Harris can beat Trump if Biden steps back.

Earlier Sunday, Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Mich., said on CNN she was hearing some constituents urging Biden to step aside and others saying he needs to remain at the top of the ticket.

Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., said he had spoke with Biden on Saturday. The president talked about what he saw in the polling data, and his plans for the days to come. “He is as pumped and as eager as I’ve seen to make sure he’s taking this campaign seriously,” Padilla told MSNBC.

Biden faces a critical week in Washington, as his party’s lawmakers return to Congress — and world leaders come to the city for a NATO summit, where Biden is set to give a rare solo press conference, where he will be faced with answering more questions about his age and abilities.

Tom Brush said that the current state of the Democratic race was a sad moment, that he didn’t think Biden could make it through the election and that he wanted the president to step aside for the good of the party.

“My experience is that people can reach a stage in their life when they’re not is vital as they once were,” said Brush, 90, a long-time Democratic voter, in an interview at his home.

Biden blamed his poor debate performance on exhaustion, and insisted that medical checkups prior to the debate found “no indication of a serious condition.” Biden told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that he was sick prior to the debate with a “really bad cold.”

Rep. Jerry Nadler of New York, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary committee, Rep. Adam Smith of Washington state, the top Democrat on House Armed Services panel, Rep. Mark Takano of California, the top Democrat on the Veterans Affairs panel, and Rep. Joe Morelle of New York, the ranking member of the House Administration panel, told leaders on a virtual meeting that Democrats should seek a change at the top of the ticket.

The anonymity granted to a House Democrat who talked candidly about internal party discussion made him worried over reports that he may not do events past 8 p.m. The member said that the Democrats have little time for Biden to leave if he chooses to do so.

So far there have been no public calls from senators for Biden to step aside, despite rumors of a meeting led by Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., aimed at encouraging Biden to leave the race.

Indeed, many Democrats are still publicly supporting Biden, even as anxiety grows within their ranks. The issue is causing panic in the party just weeks before the convention in Chicago.

He didn’t speak up to defend the president or rally Democrats around him during a private meeting, which was supposed to be a listening session, and he didn’t say if he thought Mr. Biden should continue in the race.

The reality is Joe Biden has had a lot of ups and downs in his life. “So the moment that we’re in right now is a comeback moment.”

The Black Democrats, who are an influential force on Capitol Hill and in the party, have been comforting to the Biden campaign. Mr. Biden was scheduled to speak at the church on Sunday.

“You know I’ve been doing this a long time, and I’ve honest to God never been more optimistic about America’s future — if we stick together,” Mr. Biden told the congregation at Mount Airy Church of God in Christ in Philadelphia.

At the festival in New Orleans on the weekend, Waters told the audience that she was not going to be the other Democratic candidate. “It’s going to be Biden.”

“The choice for American leadership and our democracy is clear,” Representative Joyce Beatty of Ohio, a former chairwoman of the Black Caucus, said in a social media post late Sunday in which she lauded Mr. Biden’s record as a defender of democracy.

Boeing has agreed to plead guilty to a criminal fraud charge stemming from two fatal 737 Max crashes in 2018 and 2019, the Justice Department said in a court filing on Sunday. Boeing will pay a $246 million fine and spend up to $450 million on safety and compliance programs as part of a plea deal.
