The JAMA Study: Online vendors and community networks that typically supply abortion pills to women in the United States grew exponentially before Roe overturned

The JAMA study evaluated data from overseas telemedicine organizations, online vendors and networks of community volunteers that generally obtain pills from outside the United States. Before Roe was overturned, these avenues provided abortion pills to about 1,400 women per month, but in the six months afterward, the average jumped to 5,900 per month, the study reported.

Prospective patients were evaluated through written medical questionnaires, prescriptions were issued from doctors who were usually in Europe and pills were shipped from India where they were generally priced around $100. Community networks typically asked for some information about the pregnancy and either delivered or mailed pills with detailed instructions, often for free.

The online vendors who supplied a small percentage of the pills in the study often didn’t ask for the women’s medical history and shipped the pills with the least detailed instructions. The plan C program found that the vendors were providing genuine abortion pills.

But its primary use is the one contested now—mifepristone is the first of two pills taken in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy for a standard medication abortion, along with the drug misoprostol.

Researchers at Stanford University in the US have found that exercise affects various different types of tissues and organs in the human body. They found that more than 200 types of protein that were expressed differently by 21 cell types was most sensitive to exercise. The researchers also found that cells in liver, muscle and bone would be most sensitive to exercise.
