Politics about abortion are playing out on the campaign trail
Tammy Duckworth: The Alabama Supreme Court Justices and In-Improvement Embryology, and what I’ve learned from her experience with abortion
Women in Alabama who are being denied access to fertility drugs do not see it as a political issue. This is a very personal issue to them. Joe Biden supports women’s right to reproductive health care. He has been consistent in his support of women’s right to make their own reproductive health care decisions. And so, let’s make it clear what the choices are: the guy who took down Roe v. Wade, or the man who has been standing up for women’s rights for decades now.
Duckworth: No, because they’re covering their butts on this. They’re just trying to cover their tracks. They pass the legislation. These extreme supreme court justices are put on the bench by them. And by the way, it’s not just Alabama, families all across this country are not protected in terms of their access to reproductive health care.
In Alabama there are two bills introduced by Republicans aimed at protecting in-implantation embryology. The legislation seeks immunity from civil and criminal liability for IVF providers. They were introduced after the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos should be considered children.
The person whom I referred to is Tammy Duckworth. I’ve had infertility for about ten years because of my war service in Iraq. Through inovative fertility I was able to have my two daughters, Maile and Abigail. But it took 10 years for Abigail to be born, and many, many cycles of fertility treatments to get to the point where I have these gorgeous girls.
During her failed gubernatorial campaign, Lake said she was in favor of abortion being an issue for state’s rights. Lake has brought up the issue frequently since launching her Senate candidacy and she often talks about how to encourage pregnant women to have an abortion rather than have one. And if elected to the Senate, Lake says she’d vote against a federal abortion ban.
On a tape, Lake says abortion in Arizona will not be allowed except to save a mother’s life. I think we’re setting a course for other states to follow by paving the way.
Lake said on X that she would be advocating for more access to fertility treatment for women who are trying to get pregnant. It’s important that IVF help many families experience the joy of parenthood.
The Alabama supreme court ruling is an example of how Republicans claim to support reproductive freedoms. The actions of three Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn the abortion law were not in line with the rhetoric.
“When she says, ‘I’m not for this, I am for this now,’ how can you choose someone who only months ago was saying it’s okay to arrest providers of abortion care?” Gallego asked.
Lake could not be reached for her opinion on abortion. She made no mention of the issue during a weekend speech at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference.
Reproductive Freedom for All – The Tip of the Spear: How Senator Krysten Sinema is putting the issue of abortion to the test
“It’s so important,” said Mini Timmaraju, president of Reproductive Freedom for All. “Reproductive freedom and abortion access is gonna be the tip of the spear.”
On the campaign trail, Timmaraju said candidates are seizing on the issue of abortion as an opportunity to be proactive regarding it instead of simply opposing it.
The organization that supported Democrat-turned-independent Senator Krysten Sinema in her last election endorsed the idea of codifying abortion, even though it was a position that earned him the endorsement of a group called Reproductive Freedom for All.
The ideal thing would be for Ruben Gallo to be at the top of the ticket in the state, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to be at the top of the ticket nationally.
Timmaraju is hoping for a lot of support for the upcoming referendum on abortion rights in Arizona’s constitution. So far, it’s dovetailed nicely with Gallego’s own campaign – while out gathering signatures to qualify Gallego for the ballot, some of his volunteers are also gathering signatures for the abortion ballot measure.
Maryse had gone to the campaign event with Reproductive Freedom for All. She does know that the warnings about the end of federal protection for abortion rights have come to fruition, but she doesn’t have any issues that are driving her to support him.
“Well, I’m still learning about that,” Waldron said. “I will have to read through the entire initiative, but from what I understand, I’m supportive of it.”
Why do we remember more than what we forget? A neuroscientist’s best advice for learning new facts about abortion rights – a panel discussion
She said the hard work was in tying it all together and making sure that people didn’t get sucked into the presidential race.
But Timmaraju said she’s encouraged, as are Democrats nationally, that every time abortion has been on the ballot, voters have consistently voted to protect abortion rights.
The people at NPR consider themselves lifelong learners. It can feel incredibly satisfying to learn a new skill — but it’s not always easy. NPR producer Rommel Wood asked former Ask Me Another contestants their best advice for learning a new skill. Think about something you want to learn and try these tips:
According to the neuroscientist Charan Ranganath he is more interested in the things we remember than in the things we forget. In his new book, why we remember, he describes the basic building blocks of memory.
President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, is expected to testify behind closed doors today in the impeachment inquiry into his father. Hunter Biden has been the focus of attention for House Republicans.
Democracy in Michigan: When President Biden Wins the Republican Primary in Michigan, he Hehes Against Israel and the War in Gaza
In Michigan’s Republican Primary, former President Trump easily defeated Haley. There is division in the state’s Democratic electorate despite Biden winning his contest. Nearly 1 million people voted to protest the war in Gaza. The turnout exceeded the 10,000 vote goal set by Listen to Michigan, a group that wants Biden to call for an immediate cease-fire and stop sending U.S. aid to Israel.
