Lithuanian scientist Saulius Klimaauskas has won Lithuania’s first European Research Council advanced grant, 2.5 million, for research on epigenetic change. The European Molecular Biology Laboratory will partner with the Life Sciences centre at Vilnius University in 2020 in developing genome-editing technologies. This is Lithuania’s first grant under the European Research Council’s Horizon 2020 programme, designed to boost research in life-sciences.
There were protests against the war in Gaza this weekend
As many as 23 students and two faculty members were arrested on Saturday at Indiana University during an anti-Israel protest, a university statement said. “The university is committed to supporting peaceful protests that follow university policy,” it added. This comes after dozens of students were arrested at Columbia University last week for protesting against Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip.
There are deadlines and the risk of arrest for pro-Palestinian protesters
Students and activists at Emory University in US’ Atlanta on Thursday clashed with law enforcement officers during a protest against Israel’s war with Hamas. The police said that the student protesters were obstructing the flow of traffic and they arrested one student. Earlier today, the university had moved the final exams from the campus to another location amid the protests.
