The passengers were stuck inside the Vatry Airport for four days, during which they were not allowed to leave. The regional administration said that 26% of the original passengers arrived in Mumbai, while another 25 requested asylum in France. Those who did not remain were taken to a special area in the airport for asylum-seekers. The passengers grounded in France had included a 21-month-old child and several unaccompanied minors. The Paris prosecutor’s office says that the two remaining passengers were released after appearing before a judge. The judge named them as ”assisted witnesses” to the case, a special status under French law that allows time for further investigation and could lead to eventual charges or to the case being dropped.
