There is an email where Microsoft reacts to the Sony PS5 reveal
How excited is Xbox to launch XBox One? Phil Spencer, MS and Sony in the new gaming era: PlayStation Series X and S revisited
Phil Spencer wrote that although the company has seen the conversation around old emails and documents, not all of the information was up-to-date. It is hard to see work shared because there is so much to be excited about right now and in the future. We will let you know the real plans when they are ready.
The Sony and Microsoft advantages have never played out in the real world. At launch, the PS5 was not only faster than the Xbox Series X but also more affordable than it was. According to John Linneman, the PS5 pulled ahead twice in the Xbox Series X vs. PS5 game performance comparisons.
Microsoft admitted that the PS5 might have a long term price advantage over the competition in terms of expandable storage because of Sony choosing a M.2 NVMe SSDs slot. They may provide price advantage in the long term.
“[A]fter almost 12 hours of soaking in their unveil, taking apart their specs and looking at the community responses I just wanted to say that I’m proud of our team,” said Xbox boss Phil Spencer.
In a different document, Microsoft revealed it intended to subsidize the Xbox Series X and S to the tune of over a billion dollars in order to hit its price targets. The document states that it is the largest hardware subsidy ever in the gaming P&L.
A Biggest Revelations from the Microsoft Xbox Leaks: Comments on a Broadly-Streamed Detection of Gaming Content
The files were discovered early Tuesday morning by users on gaming forum ResetEra. FTC spokesperson Douglass Farrar tells WIRED that the organization was not responsible for the uploaded plans; the court later confirmed. This instance is exceptional in that it is large and broad as well as the amount of speculation about Microsoft’s future.
The internal documents say that console refresh are on the way. The refresh of the Series X console is expected to take place in November. It has no disc drive, is cylindrical in design, and will hold 2 terabytes of storage. It also promises features like faster Wi-Fi capabilities and a new controller, at a $499 price point.
The Series S refresh has a codename that isn’t quite as specific. The documents promise better internal storage and Wi-Fi for $299, with a 60-day gap between the two console releases to give Ellewood “its own ‘moment’ earlier in the holiday to maximize sales.”
The two-toned controller, codenamed Sebile, includes “direct-to-cloud” connection, a rechargeable and swappable battery, “precision haptic feedback,” quiet buttons and thumbsticks, and lift-to-wake capabilities.
According to the documents, Microsoft is thinking of its next console as a “hybrid game platform” that will fully utilize the cloud. “We will enable new levels of performance beyond the capabilities of the client hardware alone,” the company wrote in an internal slide.
Spencer goes on to mention Valve alongside Nintendo and being in full support of merging with or acquiring either company “if [the] opportunity arises.”
However, Spencer noted that he didn’t see a “mutually agreeable merger” for the two companies, and he didn’t believe “hostile action would be a good move so we are playing the long game.”

Elder scrolls VI won’t be released until 2026, and even though the game will be released on PS5 and PC, fans shouldn’t expect it to be at all.
