Microsoft has a new design for the Xbox Series X with a gyro controller

The Revised Xbox Series X Console, Controller, and Controller (Sebille), and its Phenomenological Predictions

There is a plan for the new Xbox Series X console and controller, as well as a refreshed XBOX Series S with one ton of storage. Microsoft just launched a refreshed Xbox Series S in black, but there could be another refresh on the way in 2024 with Wi-Fi 6E support and Bluetooth 5.2. The new controller will be part of the package.

The new Series X console will not have a disc drive and is more circular than the existing console. Internal confidential Microsoft documents reveal it has 2TB of storage (up from 1TB), a USB-C front port with power delivery, and an “all-new, more immersive controller.”

The new controller, codenamed Sebille, is set to be announced later this year and will include an accelerometer for gyro support. It has a two-tone color scheme, will support a direct connection to the cloud, and will have an updated Wireless 2 connection. Microsoft also lists “precision haptic feedback” and “VCA haptics double as speakers” as specs for the controller. It will come with modular thumbsticks and a rechargeable battery, and you can lift it up to wake it.

The PS5 vs XBOX: Sony, Microsoft, and Xbox Gamer’s P&L in the 2021s

The real world has never seen Sony’s and Microsoft’s advantages play out. At launch, the PS5 turned out not to need a particularly speedy SSD and yet outperformed the Xbox Series X. In June 2022, John Linneman said that the PS5 pulled ahead twice while the XBOX pulled ahead eight times.

Microsoft admitted that the PS5 could have a price advantage on storage because Sony used a standard M.2 NVMeSSD slot. Their approach may provide a price advantage in the long term.

Phil Spencer said that he was proud of the team, as after almost 12 hours of soaking in their unveil, tearing their spec and looking at the community responses.

In a different document, Microsoft revealed that it planned to subsidize the Xbox Series X and S to the tune of $1.5 billion in 2021 to hit its price targets of $499 and $299, respectively. “That’s our largest hardware subsidy ever in the Gaming P&L,” the document reads.
