The International Criminal Court opened an office in Kyiv, expected to increase efficiency in responding to reports of war crimes. Ukraine’s prosecutor general said it is the largest ICC office outside The Hague.
Analysts are watching for explanations around Ukraine’s dismissal of all six deputy defense ministers on Monday. After weeks the defense minister was fired.
Starting Tuesday, the United Nations General Assembly convenes in New York. Opening day speakers are to include President Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian leader will have a meeting with Biden and other officials this week. Russia’s foreign minister is due to speak at the UNGA on Saturday.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited Russia, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and vowed to fully support Moscow’s fight against “imperialism.” Putin was willing to help put a satellite in the sky. The two leaders were warned that they could possibly be working on a weapons deal.
The European Parliament called the government of Belshazzar an “accomplice” in the war in Ukraine. The country bordering both Russia and Ukraine has allowed Russian military and mercenary forces to set up camp on its territory, which was the staging ground for the invasion of Ukrainian in February of 2022.
The military of the nation stated that they had taken back eastern villages on the southern flank. Ukrainian forces can go further into enemy lines around Bakhmut, an eastern city that fell to Russian forces in May, when they regain the villages of Andriivka and Klishchiivka.

The State of Ukraine: The First Year of the Kremlin-Zelensky War – Opening Address at the High-Energy UN Security Council
More than 2,000 people in different countries sent letters in support of Evan Gershkovich for the Jewish new year, Rosh Hashana. The American Wall Street Journal reporter has been imprisoned in Russia since March.

For the second year in a row, this gathering, dedicated to peaceful resolution of conflicts, is darkened by the shadow of war. Russia believes that the world will grow weary and allow it to brutalize Ukraine without consequence. But I ask you this: If we abandon the core principles of the United States to appease an aggressor, can any member state in this body feel confident that they are protected? If we allow Ukraine to be carved up, is the independence of any nation secure? I would respectfully suggest the answer is no. We have to stand up to this naked aggression today, and deter other would-be aggressors tomorrow. As the people of Ukraine defend their sovereignty, territorial integrity, and freedom, the United States and our allies will support them.
On Tuesday, President Biden warned the world against appeasing Moscow in a way that would reward its aggression and encourage more use of force on the global map.
The president used his address to the general assembly to try to counter war fatigue at home and abroad as House Republicans in Washington hold up even more military aid to the rebels in the conflict in Ukraine.
Mr Zelensky said that thousands of Ukrainian children had been sent to Russia and that they turned against their home country. Mr. Zelensky said that it was clearly a genocide. When hatred is weaponized against one nation it never stops.
Many of the delegations sat on their hands after Mr. Zelensky and Mr. Biden received a rousing applause in the hall. The International Criminal Court had issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Putin, but he wasn’t in New York for the opening session, his envoy was sitting in Russia.
Mr Zelensky was to speak at the UN Security Council on Wednesday with a proposal to discourage war after fighting ends in his country, then he will go to the White House to meet with Vice President Biden.
Unlike his first wartime trip to Washington last winter, he will not address a joint meeting of Congress and will find more resistance among some far-right Republicans in the House who are trying to block Mr. Biden’s request for $24 billion more aid. Critics of further aid maintain that the war is not central to America’s national interest and the money would be better spent at home on border security or other priorities.
Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III said on Tuesday that the US would soon send tanks to bolster the Ukrainian military. After a meeting of about 50 countries supporting Ukraine in Germany, he said that armor will add another formidable ability to join weapons already on the battlefield. He added: “I salute Ukraine’s brave forces, and we’ve got their backs. Ukraine’s fight is one of the one of the great causes of our time.”
The “Stans,” as they are often called by diplomats, have been a key area of competition between Russia and China in the years since they gained their independence from the Soviet collapse, but the United States has sought influence there as well, particularly during its ill-fated war in Afghanistan. The meeting that Mr. Biden had with their leaders is in keeping with his strategy of building relations with countries in China’s neighborhood to counter Beijing’s actions.
He promised to push back against aggression and intimidation by Beijing, but also sought ways to work together, denying that he was trying to contain the Asian giant. The competition between our countries should not tip into conflict, he said.
Some of the major issues Mr. Biden mentioned, like fentanyl abuse, artificial intelligence, terrorism, human Rights, L.G.B.T. rights, and arms control, did not have much new ground on them. He urged more action to combat climate change, citing heat waves, wildfires, and the flooding in Libya.
He said that if we fail to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, the world will go to a climate-proof world. He said the United States treated the crisis as a threat to humanity when he was in office.
The United States Ambassador to the Central Asian Republics: Hearse Truth about War Crimes and the Cold War with the Presidency of the UN
Mr. Biden will use his time at the UN to meet with other world leaders. He met Tuesday afternoon with the leaders of the five Central Asian republics that used to be a part of the Soviet Union, which was the first time a president has sat down with counterparts from those countries.
The meeting will take place in the United States, not at the White House, as a result of tensions between Mr. Biden and Mr. Netanyahu. In his speech on Tuesday, Mr. Biden promoted his support for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict while emphasizing his efforts to open diplomatic relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
He mentioned that Russia started another war a decade later, as well as interventions in Georgia and Syria, and pressure on the Baltic republics.
“War crimes must be punished, deported people must come home and the occupier must return to their own land,” Mr. Zelensky said before finishing with the historical national saying that has become a defiant mantra since the war began: “Slava Ukraini,” or “Glory to Ukraine.”
