The first Republican primary debate of the 2024 presidential race will be held Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 9 to 11 p.m. Eastern. The debate is hosted by Fox News and is sanctioned by the Republican National Committee. You can watch it a number of ways.

The location of the contest is one of the most debated in the country, and it will take center stage as the contest ramps up. The focus is expected to be on the closely split state for both parties.

Fox News Channel will broadcast the event, with live coverage starting at 8 p.m. Eastern — an hour before the debate itself — and running past midnight.

As of the official qualification deadline Monday evening, eight candidates had made the stage. Governor Doug Burgum of North Dakota, Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida and Former Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas are just a few.

Gov. Chris Christie — The former New Jersey governor is launching another bid for the Republican nomination. Christie has been expected to position himself as the conservative alternative to Trump after breaking ties with the former president following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

Trump launched a series of ads against the Florida governor who was also at the forefront of signing laws to limit abortion access and immigration.

The first person to challenge Trump was Haley, the ambassador to the United Nations.

The former Arkansas governor is trying to please Republican-leaning independents by standing against Trump and criticism of the former president for being involved in the January 6 insurrection.

White Christian evangelicals are a large portion of the Republican base. The former president’s involvement in attempts to overturn the 2020 election results has been denounced by him. Pence specifically criticized Trump’s pressure for him to refuse to count certain Electoral College votes, a theory that Pence rejected as unconstitutional.

Among younger GOP candidates is a man named Vivek Ramaswamy. The former tech and finance executive has been a prominent voice in conservative circles, arguing against the environmental, social and governance (ESG) movement and against “woke”-ism.

Trump’s Insights into the Electoral Race: Why He Will Not Be Doing The Debate, But I Will Do It With Tucker Carlson

Even though he is the current front runner for the nomination, Trump didn’t attend. He informed his followers on Sunday that he wouldn’t be participating.

The debate would not include Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, Texas Congressman Will Kendal, conservative talk show host Larry Elder and Texas pastor Ryan Binkley.

The television network tried to convince Trump to attend the debate, but he said he would be skipping it in favor of an interview with Tucker Carlson.

He said in a post that the public knows who he is and what a successful Presidency he had. “I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!”

According to CNN, the former president taped an interview with Carlson and it is expected to be released Wednesday night.

Trump’s counterprogramming also comes on the week he is expected to voluntarily surrender at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, where he faces 13 felony counts related to efforts to overturn the state’s 2020 presidential election results.

Despite four indictments in six months, a majority of Republicans prefer Trump to be the party’s nominee, according to new polling. Still, with most Americans, which includes independent voters, Trump remains largely unpopular.

The First State Specific ad from the Biden-Harris Campaign: An investment in the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library as a venue for the second GOP debate

The Biden-Harris campaign announced its first state specific ad on Tuesday, as part of its $25 million ad campaign in battleground states. The campaign is also touting this as the “largest and earliest media buy for a reelection campaign into constituency media ever” and the campaign’s first investment in Hispanic and African American media.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library will be the location of the second GOP debate. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute are a partner with the RNC.

The qualifications to participate in this second event will be higher than the first, including higher polling numbers and a greater amount of unique donors, according to the Associated Press.
