An early, early look at Biden’s future

Why is President Joe Biden so “Unpopular” in 2020? Why is he so poorly viewed by Democrats and the American people?

After months of hinting at a likely bid, President Biden officially announced on Tuesday that he will seek a second term as president of the United States in the 2024 election.

Biden ran his first campaign on a platform of fighting for “the soul of our nation,” arguing that Trump had stirred up racist and antidemocratic sentiment that was hurting the country.

At 80, Biden is the oldest person to serve as president, a point that has given Democrats pause, questioning, at times, whether he gives them the best chance at winning. But the former vice president and longtime Delaware senator is unlikely to face a serious challenge for the nomination.

“Joe Biden has had one of the most successful first two years of any president in recent history,” Smith said. He has been ignored at every turn, and still exceeded expectations. I think the Democrats are going to rally behind him in the race for the presidency.

That alternative, however, never emerged. Vice President Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, for example, have had consistently worse favorability ratings.

Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement that Biden is “out of touch” and blamed him for inflation, crime rates and fentanyl trafficking.

Biden’s win in 2020 was largely a reflection of antipathy towards Trump from a majority of the country and anger over the Trump administration’s handling of the coronaviruses.

Why is Mr. Biden faring so poorly? The reasons for his weak ratings are under debate. The withdrawal from Afghanistan, the surging Delta variant of the coronavirus, a stalled legislative agenda and the beginnings of inflation were all seen as possible theories. The story line of support for the Ukrainians against Russia seems to have waned, as has the trend line on inflation; covid deaths are at a three year low, but Mr. Biden remains unpopular.

Trump’s approval rating was in the high-40s and Biden’s is in the low-40s. He was in his first year in office when the withdrawal from Afghanistan happened.

Biden describes what he called “MAGA extremists” in the video, which features an image of President Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as well as a picture of a Georgia congresswoman. All of this will make it more difficult for you to vote.

Biden ended Tuesday’s campaign announcement with the phrase “let’s finish the job,” a line he first tested out in his State of the Union address this year.

Biden repeated the phrase 12 times during that speech in February, referring to rebuilding the middle class, capping the cost of insulin, expanding Medicaid, acting on climate change, increasing taxes on billionaires, strengthening antitrust enforcement, getting more affordable housing, funding universal pre-K, increasing vocational job opportunities, pushing for police reform and banning assault-style weapons.

Biden’s early stumbles and the “nothing” he can do about the American economy: What is the likelihood that he’ll do?

Biden announced some key members of his campaign team, which included campaign manager Julie Chvez Rodriguez who was the White House point person with governors and mayors during Biden’s first term in Office, and principal deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks, who ran the campaign of Sen.

Jim Messina was the campaign manager for Obama’s reelection in 2012 and said that it’s very likely that that will be the case with Trump.

There are three basic possibilities at this stage. One is that the overall political environment remains unfavorable, presumably because of persistent inflation and partisan polarization. If that’s the case, the president in these straits will have low approval ratings and struggle until voters feel their economic fortunes are improving.

It is possible that Mr. Biden’s early stumbles caused lasting damage to his leadership competence, due to his age. He might not find it easy to get the nation’s confidence back if he doesn’t look like himself.
