The rifle used in the Louisville shooting was bought legally
A 35-year old employee opened fire on his colleagues at the Old National Bank, in Los Alamos, Calif., on Saturday night
The 25-year old employee of the Old National Bank opened fire on his colleagues as they gathered for a meeting at the bank, according to authorities. The bank’s manager said she witnessed the shooting virtually as the meeting was being streamed (officials said the gunman separately streamed the attack online).
Police officials said that the man who was shooting at police was killed in a gunfight with officers. Two people, one of which was shot in the head, were injured during the gunfire.
The police officer, who was shot during a gunfight with the man inside the bank, is in critical condition.
The police department responded to the Old National Bank on East Main Street, where they say there was an active aggressor. Police said officers were on the scene in minutes.
There is a large police presence in the area as well as broken glass at the entrance of the bank in the video taken by CNN affiliate WDRB.
A local man told CNN affiiliate WLKY he got a call from his wife, who works at Old National Bank, who said there was an active shooter and she was locked in a vault inside the bank. The man, Caleb Goodlett, called 911 but officers were already aware of the shooting.
“I saw people running and then some others got out (of) their car and began to run as well,” Curd said. The police were yelling and telling people there was a shooter at the bank and to back away.
An employee at a bank in Louisville, Kentucky, confessed to shooting three people in connection with a fatal shooting at the school in Tennessee
The Louisville metro area, located along Kentucky’s border with Indiana, has a population of about 630,000 people as of the 2020 Census. A bank, furniture store and the Louisville Ballet are located in the 300 block of East Main Street which is bordered to the east by Louisville Slugger Field.
Beshear said he was headed to the scene of the shooting. He asked people to pray for the families and the city of Louisville.
Buchheit-Sims, who was attending the meeting virtually, watched in horror as the shooting played out on her computer screen, saying the incident “happened very quickly.”
Deana Eckert, the 57-year-old victim, died late Monday, though it is unclear if she was one of the three people in critical condition earlier in the day.
The four other victims, who died Monday morning, were identified by police as Joshua Barrick, 40; Juliana Farmer, 45; Tommy Elliott, 63; and James Tutt, 64.
Sturgeon, whose LinkedIn profile showed he had interned at the bank for three summers and been employed there full-time for close to two years, had been notified that he was going to be fired from his job at the bank, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation.
The source said the gunman left behind a note for his parents and a friend indicating he planned to carrying out a shooting at his workplace, though it is unclear when the message was found.
The Gun Violence Archive states that so far this year 146 mass shootings have occurred in the United States, and many of these tragedies strike at the hearts of American communities. It’s exactly two weeks after six people, including three children and three adults, were killed in a shooting at a school in Tennessee that set off a fierce debate about gun control in the state.
The Louisville Police Officers and Employees of the Old National Bank, Inc., Rejoind in Support of a 911 Shooting
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags across the state to fly at half-staff until Friday evening in honor of the victims, but some Democratic lawmakers are concerned that the expressions of grief will come and go without meaningful gun violence solutions.
This is not about politics. This is about life and death. This is about preventing tragedies. You may think this will never happen to you, never happen to any of your friends or loved ones. I used to believe that. The sad truth is that now no one in our city, no one in our state, no one in our country has that luxury anymore,” he continued.
Too many Americans are paying the price of doing nothing. The president asked when Republicans in Congress would act to protect their communities.
The CEO of Old National Bank, Jim Ryan, was in Louisville on Monday in the aftermath of the shooting.
“As we await more details, we are deploying employee assistance support and keeping everyone affected by this tragedy in our thoughts and prayers,” Ryan said in a statement that morning.
The shooting began around 8:30 a.m., police said, about 30 minutes before the bank opens to the public. Bank staff were holding their morning meeting in a conference room when the shooter opened fire, Buchheit-Sims, the bank manager, said.
Nickolas Wilt and his father, Jameel, remember an amazing friend, Elliot, the mayor of Louisville
Nickolas Wilt, a 26-year-old rookie officer, ran toward the gunfire and was shot in the head, interim Louisville Metro Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said. He finished the police academy less than a month before the shooting.
The gun used in the shooting was an AR-15-style rifle, a federal law enforcement source told CNN. According to the 2016 National Firearms Survey, 29% of gun owners reported having owned a semi-automatic rifle within the past year, while another 30% had owned an identical-style rifle. The AR-15 and its offshoots have been the weapon of choice in many of the most horrific mass shootings in recent memory, including the Covenant school shooting in Nashville just two weeks ago.
“This is not a state that’s friendly to those who would think about gun reform … or gun control in some way or even reasonable, as you might consider, gun steps that we could take in terms of restricting them. This is not the same as that state. The effort continues.
I survived a workplace shooting last year. He died a close friend in an office shooting yesterday at the Old National Bank, where a man opened fire, killing five.
“Tommy was a great man. He cared about finding good people and putting them in positions to do great things. He embraced me when I was very young and interested in politics,” state senator Yates told CNN. The man was lifting people up and building them up.
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg, who is close to Gov. Beshear, said he went to the hospital with Elliot’s wife on Monday.
Greenberg said it was painful for all the families he knew. It hits home when you know one of the victims.
Beshear remembered Elliot an “incredible friend” and also called the others who were killed “amazing people” who will be missed and mourned by their communities.
The Louisville shooting that killed five people and injured eight people in the attack: I’m sorry, I know, but I am afraid I can’t do that
The gunman who killed five people and injured eight others during a shooting in downtown Louisville on Monday bought the AR-15 style rifle used in the attack legally, authorities said Tuesday.
The gun that was used in the attack was purchased six days before the attack from a Louisville dealer.
Crowell said emergency services received the first call about three minutes after the shooter opened fire, officers arrived on the scene about three minutes after that and police shot and killed Sturgeon three minutes later.
Several officials made teary eyed pleas to the state and federal legislators at the Tuesday news conference to do more to combat gun violence.
I am a person of faith. I was raised in the church. We’ve been a part of the church for many years. Please, if you are a person of faith, and you want to give us your thoughts and your prayers, we want them and we need them,” said Rep. Morgan McGarvey, D-Ky.
“But we need policies in place that will keep this from happening again, so that thoughts and prayers do not have to be offered to yet another community ripped apart by the savage violence coming from guns,” he added.
Forty people have been killed by guns so far this year in Louisville, Greenberg said Tuesday, delivering an impassioned plea for state and federal government to take action on gun violence or to cede that power to the city.
When asked what it was like for hospital staff to deal with the influx of patients from the shooting, University of Louisville Health chief medical officer Jason Smith said it wasn’t uncommon for the emergency room to see that many gunshot victims in one day.
“To be honest with you, we barely had to adjust our operating room schedule to be able to do this,” he said. It is how often we are having to deal with gun violence.
Smith said he was “weary” after seeing victims of gun violence at the hospital for all of his 15 years there, and that it can be a drain on the medical professionals who have to tell families that their loved ones have died.
“It just breaks your heart. He said that when you hear someone screaming, it’s too difficult to be able to do that.
The Greenberg Shooting in Louisville, Kentucky: Why I’m Not Trying to Stop Doing What We’ve Done
I don’t know what the answers are. But to everyone who helps make policy — at state, city, federal — I would simply ask you to do something. Because doing nothing, which is what we’ve been doing, is not working.”
Greenberg was the target of a shooting at his campaign headquarters last year. CNN reported that a round appeared to hit his clothing in the shooting.
It is necessary for us to take action now. We need short-term action to end this gun violence epidemic now so fewer people die on our streets, and in our banks, and in our schools and in our churches. Helping us for that is something we need. We need help from our friends in Frankfurt and help from our friends in Washington, DC,” the mayor added.
The law enforcement source said that the man, who was killed in a police gunfight, was on the verge of being terminated.
Greenberg spoke with several local lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and planned to meet with them formally in the coming days to discuss what we can do together.
Greenberg, speaking during a news conference earlier Tuesday on the bank shooting, said that nobody has the “luxury” of thinking they won’t have a connection to gun violence at some point in their life.
The man accused of shooting at Greenberg has been indicted by a Kentucky grand jury.

A Conversation with Levy Greenberg, Founder and Executive Director of 21c Museum Hotels, a Multi-Century Contemporary Art Museum, and Co-Oak Valley Wrestling
I was lucky that one of my teammates slammed the door. They were able to throw some desks on top of the door and the suspect fled. We are very fortunate to be here today. He told viewers at the time on New Day that all of them were.
Greenberg, an entrepreneur and community leader, ran on a platform that prioritized public safety, justice, affordable housing, strengthening education, jobs and making Louisville “greener.”
Before his electoral victory, Greenberg told Spectrum News 1 that he wanted to improve public safety, make it a less violent city for all of our residents, and for everyone to visit.
Greenberg is a trained lawyer and he graduated from the University of Michigan and Harvard Law School. He helped launch 21c Museum Hotels, a regional “multi-venue” contemporary art museum and hotel chain, and is a co-owner of Ohio Valley Wrestling.
