What will it mean for the presidential election in two years?

When Donald Trump returns to New York he’ll face the next grand jury indictment against Donald Trump: The People of the State of New York against Donald

When Donald Trump appears in court this week, he will be the first ex-president to appear in court charged with a crime.

The 45th president is expected to turn himself in on Tuesday in Manhattan, the stage from which he built his legend as a popular culture figure and real estate magnate but which could now be used to engineer his downfall, in the case of “The People of the State of New York against Donald

After a Manhattan grand jury indicts him last week, Trump will go back to New York. His appearance with Secret Service agents will come as he campaigns for the White House. On Tuesday night, Trump plans to make a speech at Mar-a-Lago in which he will try to leverage political advantage out of the personal legal crisis he’s in.

While Trump is aggressive in attacking Bragg and the judge in the case, he might not be effective in court. Bragg does have an exacting task in that he must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump committed crimes. The rule of evidence and schedule of the court are all subject to the former president, who may try to use them to delay and distract the court.

All of the cases have been denied by Trump. But once more, America’s political and legal systems, under a near-constant stress test since he came down the escalator in Trump Tower to launch his campaign in 2015, will be put under enormous pressure that is likely to only deepen the country’s internal estrangement.

Some legal experts, without having seen the still-sealed indictment, have questioned whether a case that appears to revolve around infringements of accounting practices and possible campaign finance violations is sufficiently serious to merit the historical step of indicting an ex-president who is already running again.

While Trump’s critics have celebrated the indictment as a sign that no one is above the law, Tacopina argued that the ex-president was actually getting worse treatment than an ordinary citizen would because of his fame and political aspirations.

“Had he not been running for office right now, for the office of the presidency – which, by the way, the polls have shown since this has been announced, his numbers have gone up significantly – had he not been running for presidency, he would not have been indicted,” Tacopina said. Bragg has made little comment about the case since the indictment came down.

Michael Cohen is a pathological liar. He’s lied to banks, the IRS, Congress,” Tacopina said. The lawyer for Cohen warned that a Trump defense that shredded his client’s reputation wouldn’t work. “My old friend Joe Tacopina … (has) a wrong strategy if he thinks he’s building his whole strategy on personal attacks on Michael Cohen,” Davis said.

After Trump warned of potential death and destruction ahead of being charged, as well as due to his past inciting the Capitol insurrection, the police department in New York have beefed up their security. Some of Trump’s supporters haven’t shown up for his calls for protests.

According to a person who spoke with Trump, he was not prepared for the grand jury to indict him. While he was previously bracing for an indictment, he began to believe reports that a potential charge was weeks – or more – away.

DeSantis, who has yet to declare a run, is running a shadow campaign rooted in the premise that he could offer Trump-style policies without the chaos or distractions of the ex-president. A Republican indicted in a general election may hurt the party in the future. Asa Hutchinson, the former Arkansas governor who called on Trump to step aside because of the indictment, is running for president.

In a statement on Thursday, Trump showed that he will respond to this brush with political fate in the same way he has lashed out at previous threats in his business and political career – with fury and by seeking to use his political power to stir up huge disruption and partisan anger.

He predicted that the Witch-Hunt would backfire on Joe Biden. “The American people realize exactly what the Radical Left Democrats are doing here. Everyone can see it. So our Movement, and our Party – united and strong – will first defeat Alvin Bragg, and then we will defeat Joe Biden, and we are going to throw every last one of these Crooked Democrats out of office so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

This Tuesday will likely be the beginning of a new, dramatic and divisive chapter in Trump’s political career and another extreme test for America, because of his approach.

Fresh off a historic arraignment, former President Donald Trump is still very much running to regain office in 2024. This is the lay of the land for the weeks and months ahead.

What’s with Donald Trump? How Trump has gotten away with the adversarial investigation and what is going on with the GOP

We’ve seen this show before with Trump. He’s been impeached twice. It didn’t really change anything. Not much moves the needle when it comes to Trump’s base, and he’s trying to capitalize here. He’s been raising money off of this. His campaign says Trump has raised more than $7 million in the few days after the indictment. He’s predictably making a pretty big show of it.

They have been put in a box. They have got to line up behind him. The Republicans on Capitol Hill hated the prosecution of this New York prosecutor. [Alvin Bragg]. They’re echoing Trump’s language that this is politically motivated. Now, it’s not everyone in the Republican Party. We haven’t seen many people speak out against Trump. A new candidate in the race denounced Trump, Asa Hutchinson. He says the criminal investigations against Trump, when taken together, are very serious and that Trump should not be running.

There are three entities conducting the investigations, two in New York and one in Georgia, related to Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election. But take this for context about how Trump is doing with Republicans. Sarah Longwell is a Republican. For the first time this past week, no one in the focus group of Republican voters said they would vote for Ron DeSantis over Trump. It seems that Trump is solidifying his hold on the base.
