The men’s and women’s Sweet Sixteen were set in March Madness

A win for the Knights in Fairleigh Dickinson Madness at the Finale of the NCAA Tournament on Oct. 27, 2009 at the Tevatron

There have been upsets, ‘Cinderella’ runs and brackets busted, but some of the higher seeds have handled their business with aplomb and avoided any banana peels.

1 seeds have not reached the Sweet 16 since 2009 and only five of the past 20 years have there been a top seed knocked out before the second weekend.

The forward scored 20 points for the Cardinal. The game was tied at 49 with 1:14 left, but Ole Miss put the game away when they ran out of time.

“I’m a dreamer, and I try to be a dream merchant for my players. But how cool is it to take down someone that you admire [in Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer]? I will never forget that, it was pretty cool.

The No. 16-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, who earlier in the tournament had become just the second team in men’s NCAA tournament history to knock out a No. 1 seed in the first round after upsetting Purdue, lost 78-70 to the No. 9-seeded Florida Atlantic Owls in the second round on Sunday.

Florida Atlantic went into the half with a 32-25 lead, but the Knights came roaring back, going on an 8-0 run to start the second half to take the lead. The Owls took control of the game with less than five minutes to play.

Owls guard Johnell Davis led scoring with 29 points, while Demetre Roberts’ 20 points kept things close for Fairleigh Dickinson, but it wasn’t enough in the end.

The Eagles and the Cousins in the Final Round of the NCAA Tournament: a tribute to David R. “F-D-U”

The team’s spirit and ability to win against the odds made it a second team to many people, even though their run came to an end.

He said, “everything” when asked what he’ll remember from the March Madness. Everybody chanting ‘F-D-U.’ The place going crazy. Police escort. Leaving the hotel with the band playing. I will always remember every part of this.

The round will begin on Thursday, March 23 and opens up with No. 7 seed Michigan State playing No. 3 Kansas State, followed by No. 4 UConn against No. 8 Arkansas, No. 4 Tennessee against No. 9 Florida Atlantic and No. 2-seeded UCLA against No. 3 Gonzaga.

1-seed Alabama will play No. 5 San Diego State. 3 Xavier concludes the Sweet 16.

There are eight places left in the N.C.A.A. women’s basketball tournament. Follow the brackets and see our picks for the games we don’t want to miss.

12 seed, and for the second year in a row, the Eagles beat a 5 seed. This time it was a 74-63 win over Washington State. Sha Carter led Florida Gulf Coast with 24 points, and Tishara Morehouse added 16 points. The leading scorer in the county was held to 5 points by the Eagles. They may not have been able to get the attention of the star forward. In Villanova’s 76-59 first-round win against Cleveland State, Siegrist scored 35 points and became the fifth Division I women’s player in N.C.A.A. history with at least 1,000 points in a single season.

Indiana easily dispatched Tennessee Tech on Saturday in its first N.C.A.A. tournament game as a No. 1 seed, led by 19 points from guard Sydney Parrish. Miami, on the other hand, needed a 17-point comeback in the second half to beat Oklahoma State. Miami has only made the second weekend one other time, and the Hoosiers are playing to get to their third straight round of 16 game. The universities met in the second round of the men’s tournament.

The 10th-seeded Alabama had 18 points in the first quarter and that was before the Bears even took the field. But the Bears pulled out the third-largest comeback in the tournament’s history to win, 78-74. They raced to a 53-20 halftime lead and went on to a 95-50 win over Vermont. The last time UConn and Baylor met, in the 2021 tournament’s round of 8, the game ended on a missed shot from Baylor’s DiJonai Carrington that was tightly contested by two UConn defenders, a play that was loudly decried after the game for the absence of a foul call. Can we have the same drama in the second one?
