Everything to know about this year’s Super Bowl

The Kansas City Chiefs advancing to Super Bowl LVII: Travis Kelce teeming against the Cincinnati Bengals at Arrowhead Stadium

The Kansas City Chiefs are advancing to Super Bowl LVII following a 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Kansas City got out to a 6-0 lead after two field goals and before halftime, Mahomes found his favorite target – tight end Travis Kelce for a touchdown to take a 13-3 lead. Kelce was listed as questionable to play coming into the game due to a back injury.

It didn’t take long for the Chiefs to reply. The Kansas City did its own 75-yard march which included a scramble and an 18-yard touchdown toss to Travis Kelce. Six plays and the score was tied 7-7.

The Eagles defeated the 49ers 314-7 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia to move on to the title game.

The 49ers were momentarily left without rookie starting quarterback Brock Purdy after he suffered a right elbow injury in the first quarter, on a hit by Eagles linebacker Haason Reddick that forced a fumble. Josh Johnson, who is the fourth string quarterback for San Francisco, filled in for Purdy until the third quarter before being ruled out of the game with a concussion.

Hurts is in just his second season as a full-time starter. The Houston Texas native has had an MVP-caliber season, leading the team to a dominant 16-1 in games he started and finishing with an impressive 3,701 yards in the air with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions, along with 760 yards and 13 scores on the ground.

The Philadelphia Eagles — The Giants versus the Chiefs: Their offense, the quarterbacks, the tackles, and the safety nets

This year’s contest is a fight of the giants. Both teams finished the regular season at 14-3. The #1 seed in their conference were both of them. And now, both have won two playoff games to arrive here in the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs have the best offense in the league, and they’ve got the presumptive Most Valuable Player in quarterback Patrick Mahomes. But the Eagles are the most complete team in football, and overcoming their league-leading defense will be a tall task.

The Philadelphia Eagles were the class of the NFL all season. Their starting quarterback has only lost one game and that was in an odd duck with six turnovers.

Their defense is second to none, and they allowed the second lowest amount of yards of any team this year. They are better on offense than they were last season. Hurts was already a running threat and has now made big strides in his passing game, and the addition of star receiver A.J. Brown has transformed their ability for explosive plays.

Kansas City had the best offense in the league. This is true no matter which way you slice it, be it the simplest measures (the Chiefs were #1 in points scored and #1 in yards gained in the regular season), or the stats cited only by analytics nerds (their offensive expected points added per play, 0.17, was almost double the second-place team).

Chris Jones was the one who had a singlehandedly dominated the previous games against the Cincinnati Reds and the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Eagles have a good pass rush. Their pass rush, which is led by Reddick, is the best in the league at getting to the quarterback. The percentage of times that they sacked the quarterback is the highest it’s been in decades. After the Eagles recovered a fumbled, Reddick was able to jump up and down and reach San Francisco’s quarterback Brock Purdy who was forced to leave the game with an injured elbow.

This is the problem for the Chiefs, as their tackles, Andrew Wylie and OLOrlando Brown have struggled at times this year. If the Eagles are able to consistently pressure Mahomes, the offense of the Chiefs could struggle to move the ball.

The Philadelphia Eagles, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kelce Bowl: Jason Kelce, J. L. Hurts and A. Mahomes

There were many firsts in this game. The title game had two Black starting quarterbacks for the first time. The game featured two brothers against each other. All women pilots were present for the pre-game military fly-over which was the first time a Black woman coach was on the sideline.

Hurts and Mahomes, both of whom are Black, each spoke this week about the historic nature of the game and nodded to those who came before them in the long road to integrate the position. There is more information about that history here.

Hurts missed two games due to an injured throwing shoulder, the Eagles lost both of them. He’s since struggled with the deep ball — although both of the Eagles’ playoff wins were so decisive that it didn’t much matter.

The Mannings, the Watts, the Barbers, the Cunninghams and many other pairs of brothers had played in the National Football League, but none had played in the Super Bowl.

Now, we’ve got the Kelce Bowl: Jason Kelce is the All-Pro center for the Philadelphia Eagles, and his younger brother Travis is the All-Pro tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The brothers wanted to hear from their parents about what they were like as kids. Who was more honest? What kind of food did they eat? Who is the favorite? It’s all exceptionally wholesome.

The Chiefs are playing in their third Super Bowl in four years and have since missed the playoffs only one year in the last 10 years, but were immediately hired by Reid after he was fired. The Chiefs won it all in 2020. Winning a second ring this year could make him a lock for the Hall of Fame after he retires.

The beginning of the game is on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. In order for you to prepare for the game, we’ve gathered everything you need to know about the game from KCUR in Kansas City and WHYY in Philadelphia.

If the team’s 2020 victory party is any indication,, it will be quite the celebration in KC should the Chiefs take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy this year. Check out highlights from the 2020 parade here. Either way:

The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs will play a game in a prime time slot on Sunday evening. The two teams could not be more evenly matched.

The Mahomes/Travis Brady duo: The first brothers to square off on the NFL’s biggest stage – Jason or Travis?

Both emerged as the top seeds in their respective conferences. The two of them both have a record of 16-3. Both scored 547 points up to this point. Both have six All-Pros. Both have a brother named Kelce.

Football fans younger than them look to the two stars as a source of inspiration for a more inclusive version of the game.

At just 27 years old, Mahomes has a decorated resume and laundry list of accolades including two-time league MVP, Super Bowl MVP, and most importantly, Super Bowl Champion. This year, he joined Tom Brady as the only quarterback to start in three Super Bowls in their first six seasons.

He was fired at the end of the 2012 season, when the team finished with a dismal 4-12 record. He immediately joined the Chiefs, and has since reached double-digit wins in all but one season.

In 2023, either Jason or Travis will win their second Super Bowl, as they become the first brothers in history to square off on the NFL’s biggest stage.

The duo from Cleveland Heights want to share their experience. Before joining the NFL, they were teammates at the University of Cincinnati.

Over the course of his career, he has been a Pro Bowl selection, four-time All- Pro and has been recognized for his flashy dance moves. A vocal leader and a workhorse on the offensive line, he’s a six-time Pro Bowl selection and five-time All-Pro.

The Ravens versus the Chiefs: A Predictive Look at the Coltevant of the Superconducting Game at State Farm Stadium

Tune in on Sunday to see who captures the NFL’s biggest prize. The game kicks off at 6:30 at State Farm Stadium. Here’s how to watch from wherever you are:

The first play of the second quarter was signature Philadelphia. The Eagles quarterback threw a 45 yard touchdown pass to A.J. Brown.

The Eagles punted on their second possession, and the Chiefs took advantage of it. Kadarius Toney ran the kick 65-yards — the longest punt return in Super Bowl history to the Eagle five-yard-line. The second touchdown pass of the day was thrown by Mahomes to Skyy Moore to help the Chiefs extend their lead to 35-27.

While 73,000+ people were inside the State Farm Stadium in Arizona and millions more watching online, the Chiefs were left to make adjustments to slow down the Eagles offense.
