Microsoft held a media event in New York City this morning. The company used the occasion to show off two new laptops from its house-made Surface line as well as a slew of AI-powered enhancements coming to Windows 11 later this month. The hour-long presentation didn’t have a stream but we were able to hear announcements, watch demos, and get hands-on with the new devices. Here are the highlights.
Otherwise, the exterior design remains largely unchanged. The Go 4 has the same ports as the Go 3 but with two cameras instead of three and a 1920 x 1280 display, it’s still better. The kickstand, display, and battery of the Surface Go 4 have been designed to be easily repaired or replaced.
Windows Copilot, DALL-E 3, and Personalized Answers for Enterprise Users: Overview and Future Trends with Bing Chat and the Shopping Tab
The next big update for Windows is on September 26th. The new features that will be added in the update include the new Windows Copilot, a new file explorer, and native support for 7-ZIP.
Additionally, Microsoft is adding a new Windows volume mixer that lets you control app volumes individually. There’s also a Dynamic Lighting setting that you can use to adjust the lighting on your PC’s components.
There are some business functions for Copilot. The AI assistant can comb through your most recent emails, chats, files, and past meetings to collate any important information contained within those things. It can also summarize unread messages, draft replies to chats and emails, and create events based on the guardrails you set. It will only be offered by enterprise customers on November 1.
Bing Chat, Microsoft’s AI chatbot, is getting a big update. DALL-E 3, OpenAI’s latest text-to-image generator, has been added to Bing chat for free. The AI chatbot is also getting Personalized Answers, a feature that will use your chat history to inform Bing’s responses.
Want to use Bing to shop for stuff? Microsoft says the Shopping tab will also get the Copilot treatment, and you can talk to the assistant to get help finding what you want to buy. Through a series of questions Copilot can show you relevant shopping recommendations, as well as review products and pros and cons. It will be available this fall.
