The state of South Carolina will attend the Final Four for the third straight year

The Gamecocks and UConn Wild West Division I Men’s Final Four: South Carolina’s defending champion and first ever NCAA Tournament Final Four

South Carolina is the defending champ and was the top seed in this year’s final four, but they are not familiar with each other. Even though the Gamecocks made their first ever Final Four appearance eight years ago, they are still new to tournament glory.

The defending champion was not very sharp in the beginning of the game and were behind after the first quarter.

The reigning Naismith women’s player of the year and Naismith women’s defensive player of the year has had another standout season and put on another impressive display when it mattered most.

Boston tallied 22 points and 10 rebounds – her 82nd college double-double – in the victory to lead the Gamecocks to their third straight Final Four appearance.

The Iowa team is in the Final Four for the first time since 1993. “When I came here, I said I wanted to take this program to the Final Four, and all you gotta do is dream,” Clark said after Iowa’s 97-83 Elite Eight victory over Louisville. “You have to believe and work your butt off to get there.”

The Hokies came back from a first-quarter deficit to win the Elite Eight, behind Elizabeth Kitley and Georgia Amoore.

“It is so huge. Amoore told the cable network on what it meant to get into the Final Four, which would be the first in program history.

Before last weekend, the NCAA Division I women’s college basketball tournament already was marked by historic parity. Now it has its first Final Four in 38 years to feature none of the sport’s longtime Goliaths — Tennessee, Stanford and UConn.

The men’s tournament has been known for its upsets and Cinderella runs, but the women’s tournament has only had one Final Four in the last 50 years.

Ahead of the Monday night game, South Carolina coach Dawn Staley said the new lineup for the women’s final weekend was a chance to celebrate the game more widely.

She said there are so many great players and parity in our league that we need to start documenting.

Virginia Tech has not lost a game since January. Their opponent, 3-seed Louisiana State, will hope to match the lowest seed ever to win the women’s tournament. That was done by North Carolina in 1994 and Tennessee in 1997.
