Adam does amazing things for the ages
Ten Times Adam Sandler: Celebrating the Final Years of his Comedy, and His Musical Successes with Farley, Barrymore, and Howard
There were misfits such as the opera man and the child looking for house-sitting jobs. He’s also known for his funny songs, like Lunchlady Land. Buscemi and Carvey were on the red carpet and singing a line from Lunchlady Land.
Buscemi has appeared in a number of films. He took to the stage — and noted what Sandler has meant for his career: “Nobody makes me laugh like you and nobody has taken better care of me in this business than you. He does this for his friends. He’s done this for so many people…. But for me, I think the best part of working with Adam, with you, is just getting to hang out with you, man.”
He’s an accomplished comedian, singer-songwriter, director, producer, screenwriter and actor whose movies have made billions at the box office. He’s also the 2023 recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
CNN broadcasted a special about the ceremony in Washington, DC last weekend and will also show it on Sunday night. Until then, here are ten times Sandler has proved his versatile talent.
In 2009’s “Funny People,” Sandler plays a comedian who receives a terminal cancer diagnosis. He mentors a comic with twists and turns along the way to create a meaningful friendship. Sandler brings depth to the role of the aging comic.
Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler co-star in a movie about a singer falling in love with a waitress. Both of them are engaged to different people.
Howard is a jeweler and gambler who gets caught up in debt. The film is considered to be the best in the career of the actor.
Farley died from a drug overdose in 1997. More than twenty years after his death, Sandler still gets emotional when he sings the “Chris Farley Song.” He performed the song in his Netflix special, “Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh,” and in May 2019 as host on “Saturday Night Live.”
While Farley steals the show here, Sandler plays the perfect sidekick, a woman who works at The Gap, watches too much Court TV and nearly breaks when Farley can’t stick to a diet.
“No one just goes to someone else’s house and knock on the door,” he said, adding that Sandler will stand outside the gate at his home yelling “Coney! Coney!”
In this 1996 film, Sandler played Happy Gilmore, a man-boy who wants to be a professional hockey player. Happy goes to a golf tournament to try and save his grandmother’s house.
Sandler plays a waterboy for a college football team who gets a shot to join the team. At the time, the comedy opened in first place at the box office.
