Alex Murdaugh’s best friend admitted to stealing and having a drug addiction

Paul Murdaugh had a dog, but no video, with his wife living at the house of the murders of his son, Rogan Gibson,

Prosecutors believe one of those voices belongs to Murdaugh, and that voice is the only other on the video besides the victims and places him at the scene at the time of the murders. The witness Wednesday backed up that claim.

Waters told the court that Paul filmed a dog that belonged to his friend because they were concerned about its tail. Murdaugh reminded anyone who would listen he was never there. The evidence will show that he was there. Paul had a phone that locked when he was at the scene of the murder.

Dove said that three different voices could be heard in the footage. Dove said that he could tell that they were different voices.

Rogan Gibson, who described himself as a close friend of Paul’s and the Murdaughs as being like a second family, told investigators shortly after the killings that along with the voices of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh, he was “99% sure” the third person heard was Alex Murdaugh. He told investigators that he was definitely sure last November and in court Wednesday.

Paul Murdaugh called Gibson the night of the shooting, at 8:40 p.m., to ask if something was wrong with Gibson’s dog, Cash, which was in a kennel at the Murdaugh property. The two tried to hold a video call but it didn’t work out because the reception wasn’t good enough. Paul Murdaugh told him he would take a video of the dog and send it to him if the FaceTime call didn’t work, Gibson said, but he never received the footage.

Prosecutor Waters of the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office – which is prosecuting the case due to the Murdaugh family’s decades-old ties with the local solicitor’s office – teased the video in his opening statement last week, saying that while Alex claimed to investigators he was napping at the house, video evidence would show he was present at the family’s kennels, where the bodies of his son and wife were found.

The defense attorney stated in his statement that the audio from the Video would show Murdaugh and his wife having a normal discussion. Harpootlian claimed that Paul was very happy. “Nobody’s down there threatening him. Daddy is not pulling out a shotgun and killing him.”

Prosecutors have indicated cell phone evidence is key in their case against Murdaugh, who has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in the killings of his wife Margaret “Maggie” Murdaugh and his 22-year-old son Paul on June 7, 2021.

The family was found dead at the home in Islandton, South Carolina, known as Moselle, on the night of the killings.

The prosecution has called at least 15 people to testify, including Dove, who testified that there was a text message from Alex at 9:47p.m. on the night of the killings. It was never read.

In his opening statement last week, Waters told the jury Murdaugh repeatedly called his wife that evening before texting her that he was going to visit his mother and driving to Almeda, South Carolina.

At 8:53 pm, the display of the phone was turned off. At 8:54 p.m., the orientation changed to landscape and the camera activated – an indication, Dove said, the phone was moved and the camera tried to locate Maggie’s face in an unsuccessful attempt to unlock.

Dove said it would appear that way, since there was no way to know when the calls were deleted or who was responsible.

Dove said that the only way to remove calls from the log would be to manually do it.

This behavior appeared to be outside Murdaugh’s typical texting habits, Dove testified, saying Murdaugh typically had a habit of checking texts within 5 minutes, or sometimes 30 to 40 minutes.

An attorney who said he was Alex Murdaugh’s best friend testified at his murder trial Thursday that Murdaugh admitted he had a drug addiction and had been stealing money from his law firm and clients.

Murdaugh’s wife and son passed away three months after his law firm said it had discovered extensive financial wrongdoing.

Wilson is one of several witnesses who accuse Murdaugh of financial wrongdoing at his law firm. Prosecutors believe Murdaugh killed his wife and son to distract attention from his financial crimes and to avoid a day of reckoning.

“They’ve got a whole lot more evidence about financial misconduct than they do about evidence of guilt in a murder case. And that is what this is all about, according to the defense lawyer.

A personal injury case he and Murdaugh worked on together won a $5.5 million verdict, with both attorneys earning about $800,000 each. Murdaugh asked Wilson to write the check to him personally rather than his law firm, and Wilson did as requested.

Much of the testimony this week has focused on Murdaugh’s financial issues. The judge overseeing the case ruled in favor of allowing such evidence on Monday, saying that proof is needed to complete the story.

The son of Murdaugh’s former employee testified in court that he was cheated by Murdaugh.

The settlement was heard about by Satterfield’s family through media reports. He said when he asked Murdaugh about it in June 2021, Murdaugh told him “it was still making progress” and to be ready to settle by the end of the year.

The CEO of the local bank told the jury that Murdaugh had an account that was overdrawn. As of August 2021, Murdaugh had a total debt to the bank of $4.2 million, according to Palmetto State Bank CEO Jan Malinowski.

At the time of the murders, Murdaugh was already facing a lawsuit stemming from the wreck of his boat in February of 2019. Murdaugh owned the boat and Paul Murdaugh was allegedly driving it at the time of the accident.

And earlier this week, the defense seemed to suggest the killings of Maggie and Paul could have been related to a money dispute with a drug gang, telling the court Murdaugh was buying $50,000 worth of drugs each week from one man who owed a lot of money to a gang.

On Thursday, the prosecution asked Tinsley about how that lawsuit was proceeding. He was told that Murdaugh was broke and may only be able to come up with $1 million. Tinsley was not cross-examined Thursday and is expected to resume his testimony Friday morning.

The CFO testified that they wouldn’t harass him about money when they were worried about his mental state and his family had been killed.

Indeed, that “day of reckoning” didn’t come for another three months, when his law firm again confronted him about misappropriated funds, leading to his resignation, a bizarre murder-for-hire and insurance scam plot, a stint in rehab, dozens of financial crimes, his disbarment and, ultimately, the murder charges.

Throughout the trial, prosecutors have tried to place Murdaugh at the scene of the killings shortly before the crime, notably with the help of a video clip authorities say was recorded shortly before the shootings.

About 30 seconds after Greene and Murdaugh begin talking, the deputy asks him whether the gun he brought to the scene was from inside the home. Murdaugh says yes and then gives an explanation as to why someone would kill his family.

The deputy asks where the gun is, and Murdaugh tells him it is leaning against Murdaugh’s vehicle. The deputy checks Murdaugh’s shirt.

This is a very long story. My son was in a boat wreck months ago. He’s been getting threats,” Murdaugh says. “Most of it’s been benign stuff. We didn’t take serious, you know, he’s been getting like punched. Um, I, I know that’s what it is.”

An investigator testified that the data showed that Murdaugh stayed at his parents home for about 20 minutes before heading back to Moselle.

Ellen Riemer and Alex Murdaugh: The Collision Survivors of an Assault-Rifle Injuries

Ellen Riemer gave testimony Monday about the injuries suffered by the couple and their autopsy results.

The force of the shot caused his brain to be ejected, Riemer said, and it arrived to the autopsy separately. At this testimony, Alex Murdaugh was visibly upset, and grabbed a tissue and wiped his eyes and nose.

Riemer stated that Murdaugh was shot with an assault rifle. The first two shots were fired from the front while Maggie was standing, Riemer said; one went through her abdomen and the other went through the inside of her left thigh.

“I don’t see anything on his hands that would indicate he had his hands up to his face in anticipation of the injury that was about to happen,” Riemer testified. “That first shot, his arm was down, and I don’t see any evidence of injury to his hands from the second.”

The next shot went upward, starting at Maggie’s chest and going through the left side of her face. Riemer said that’s because of the two first shots, causing her head to bend over. She said this would have been fatal. Riemer stated that the last gunfire was to the back of the head.

The jurors will be tested again on Wednesday. Prosecutors and defense attorneys discussed with the judge postponing the day’s proceedings, but Judge Clifton Newman said jurors would wear masks and “they have a positive attitude.”

Later that month, on May 26, Maggie searched on Google “green gel pill p30,” which matches the description of a nonprescription nighttime cold and flu medication.

The defense has portrayed the defendant as a loving father and husband who called 911 after finding his wife and son, and who is being prosecuted after a poorly handled investigation while the real killers remain at large.

The Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey was called to the stand to testify about the death of Paul and his wife, who he said died around 9 pm. Harvey said yes when asked if they could have been shot at any point in the night or day.

On Friday the court heard from an investigator, who showed how cell phone data and vehicle systems came together to show that Alex Murdaugh called the police moments after his car was found with his wife’s phone still in it.

Peter Rudofski, who investigators with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, said on Friday that he was able to plot Murdaugh’s movements using latitude, longitude and speed data from GM.

Rudofski stated in his testimony that Murdaugh drove by the spot on the side of the road where a cell phone was recovered.

When Murdaugh entered the Moselle property, he headed to the family’s dog shelter located on the property, at 10:00 p.m. the investigator said.

According to previous testimony, he told investigators on the night of the killings that when he arrived at the crime scene and discovered the bodies, he tried to turn Paul over, then attempted to check Paul’s cell phone, and then attempted to tried both of their pulses, before calling 911.
