Would Pam would stand up to Trump as Attorney General?

The Case for a New Attorney General: “The Investigations are going to be a Better Probe of President-Elect Donald Trump’s Intent for Vengeance”

Janet Reno spent 15 years as the state attorney for Miami- Dade County before going on to become the U.S. attorney general. That’s not to suggest Ms. Bondi is the next Ms. Reno. During her tenure, Ms. Reno emerged as the most fiercely independent attorney general of the modern era, often to the consternation of the president who had appointed her, Bill Clinton, and the Washington, D.C., power structure.

In 2013, Ms. Bondi solicited and accepted a $25,000 donation from Mr. Trump’s foundation to a political action committee supporting her political prospects; around the same time, as Florida’s attorney general, she elected not to open a formal investigation of Trump University, which had garnered several complaints from Ms. Bondi’s constituents.

Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, who have represented Trump in state and federal court, have been picked for deputy attorney general and another senior post, respectively, while former Missouri solicitor general Dean John Sauer, who represented Trump before the Supreme Court, has been picked as solicitor general for the incoming administration.

Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee, has praised Bondi’s record as a prosecutor, and called her well-qualified to lead the Justice Department.

“The president-elect has made it clear that he values one thing above all else in an attorney general: loyalty,” said Sen. Dick Durbin, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, earlier this week. “I have no reason to believe President-elect Trump has changed his litmus test for attorney general or his views on how the Justice Department should operate. In fact, I fear he found someone who can pass his loyalty test.”

Democrats are concerned that the department’s prosecutorial powers could be used to pursue Trump’s stated desire for vengeance.

“The Department of Justice, the prosecutors will be prosecuted. She went on Fox News in 2023 and said the bad ones. “The investigators will be investigated because the deep state, last term for President Trump, they were hiding in the shadows but now they have a spotlight on them and they can all be investigated.”

During the race for the Presidency, Donald Trump said he would seek revenge against his enemies at the Justice Department.

Trump faced four criminal prosecutions, two of them brought by special counsel Jack Smith into his handling of classified documents, as well as his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Robert Muller’s investigation into ties between Trump’s campaign and Russia took a back seat to much of Trump’s first presidency.

She was Trump’s personal attorney during the impeachment trial in the Senate. She was a lobbyist for corporate clients, including Amazon and others, as well as for the government of Qatar.

The first pick, former Florida congressman Matt Gaetz, withdrew due to allegations of sexual misconduct and illegal drug use. Gaetz has consistently denied the allegations. Republicans warmly welcomed Bondi after Trump named her for the job.
