A report on sexual harassment allegations against Matt Gaetz was released by a House panel
Investigating the Inconsistency of Matt Gaetz with the 21-Year-Old U.S. Rep. Paul Gaetz
The panel opened an investigation into Gaetz in 2021 after a flurry of allegations against the then-congressman, including illegal drug use and sexual misconduct. Some of the members of the panel objected to the release of the report and its chairman stated that the committee had no jurisdiction over former members.
Trump wanted to give that position to a man who paid at least half a dozen women for sex, according to the report, which was made public on Monday. The committee took pains to detail the underlying implication of his actions, stating that Gaetz took advantage of the economic vulnerability of young women to lure them into sexual activity which they received an average of a few hundred.
Trump wanted to give the Justice Department to a man the committee says committed the statutory rape of a 17-year-old girl. A man who worked in the House of Representatives is accused of setting up a bogus email account that he used to buy drugs and facilitate sexual harassment. A man who accepted impermissible gifts and plane trips, according to the report, and who used the power of his office to help a woman with whom he was having sex. A man whose conduct, according to his own colleagues of both parties, “reflects discreditably upon the House.”
Nonetheless, when you read through the details, you can see the commonality between the two men, and the reasons Trump held Gaetz in high esteem. contempt for women is more than just contempt for them as disposable commodities for hire or plunder; it is also contempt for the law.
The House Ethics Committee on Monday released its long-awaited report on former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., after looking into sexual misconduct allegations against him.
Among other accusations, the committee found Gaetz engaged in sexual activity with a 17-year-old girl in 2017, and used or possessed illegal drugs on multiple occasions from 2017-2019, including ecstasy and cocaine.
I did not sexual contact with a person under the age of 18. No such claim was ever made in court due to the fact that the claim would be destroyed in court.
An Ethics Panel report on “Distributed Behavior” in the House of Representatives to the Way of Replacing a Rep. Joe Gaetz
Working hard and playing hard was a part of my 30’s. It’s embarrassing, though not criminal, that I probably partied, womanized, drank and smoked more than I should have earlier in life,” he continued.
Gaetz sued the ethics panel on Monday in order to block the report’s release, arguing the committee has no jurisdiction over a private citizen.
The panel in its report said it typically doesn’t release its findings after losing jurisdiction over the issue — which happened once Gaetz resigned from Congress last month.
“However, there are a few prior instances where the Committee has determined that it was in the public interest to release its findings even after a Member’s resignation from Congress,” the panel wrote. The committee doesn’t do it lightly.
He also accepted gifts, including transportation and lodging, in connection to a trip to the Bahamas in 2018, in excess of amounts permitted to lawmakers.
Joel Leppard, an attorney for two women who testified about Gaetz before the House ethics committee, said the panel’s findings “vindicate my clients’ accounts and demonstrate their credibility.”
Guest, the panel’s chairman, on Monday wrote in the report on behalf of dissenting members who objected to the report’s release: “While we do not challenge the Committee’s findings, we take great exception that the majority deviated from the Committee’s well-established standards and voted to release a report on an individual no longer under the Committee’s jurisdiction, an action the Committee has not taken since 2006.”
While Gaetz has angered both Democrats and Republicans, many Republicans are worried about releasing a report on someone who is no longer a member of the House.
