How the prizes could change the direction of research

David Hassabis and David Jumper: The Chemistry Laureate for AlphaFold2 and Their Contributions to Google DeepMind

As long as you study it and contribute to other fields, it can be possible to win a Nobel Prize. That was done by Hassabis and Jumper, who won alongside David, despite being the only two men from the same year to win the prize.

The scientific applications for AlphaFold2 are helping researchers to understand antibiotic resistance and develop plastic degrading enzymes. This year’s chemistry Laureates have given work that used to take years to finish a quick boost, the committee said on X.

David Baker was one of three people who received the award formputational protein design. In 2003 a new protein designed by Baker was noted as “unlike any other” by the committee, and he has since developed more than two dozen new genes for pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and small particles.

She is unsure if this week’s decisions mean something. She and other people are sure it will make a difference.

“She would put it down several times, and then they kept persisting,” Hassabis said today in a press conference convened to celebrate the awarding of the prize, alongside John Jumper, his colleague at Google DeepMind. I think she realized it was a Swedish number, and they asked for my number.
