A Secret Service Agent spotted in front of Trump on the golf course and allegedly acted as if it had been a gun in a box
There was a bubble of security around Trump as he played golf on Sunday. An agent who was in front of Trump on the course saw a rifle barrel sticking out of the fence and immediately engaged the person, who took off, according to Bradshaw.
A Secret Service agent was stationed next to Trump on the golf course and spotted a rifle next to the fence. The agent “immediately engaged” with the person holding the rifle. The man took off in a black Nissan. A spokesperson for the Secret Service said agents opened fire at the individual.
Bradshaw said the suspect could be anywhere from 300 to 500 yards from Trump. It’s not long distance, he said, with a rifle and scope. He added that the suspect left two book bags and a GoPro camera.
The suspect’s model and license plate were given to authorities by a witness. The man on I-95 was identified later as being from Martin County. The suspect is currently in custody.

In an email sent out by his campaign, Trump wrote “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!”
South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) said on X that he spoke with Trump shortly after the shooting and that the former president was “in good spirits.”
Local officials said the whole golf course would have been surrounded if it had been a sitting president. The shrubbery around the golf course made detection harder for a presidential nominee.
The Special Agent in Charge of the Miami field office said that the threat level was high and that he had increased the amount of assets. He added, “We live in dangerous times.”
“They are relieved to know that he is safe. The statement said that they would be kept updated by their team. Attorney General Merrick Garland has also been briefed and is monitoring the situation, his office said.
Ryan William Routh, a former President of the United States, was arrested on Sunday afternoon for allegedly being shot at Trump’s golf course
Former President Donald Trump was targeted in what “appears to be an attempted assassination” on Sunday afternoon, the FBI says. Ryan William Routh, who was identified as a suspect after being seen with a rifle at Trump’s golf club, was taken into custody.

The president said the acting head of the Secret Service, Ronald L. Rowe Jr., is in Florida to assess what happened and determine whether any further adjustments need to be made to ensure the safety of the former president.
In an event on Monday, President Biden also condemned political violence and “the attempted assassination against our former president,” saying the ballot box, not a gun, is how America resolves differences.

Routh donated to the ActBlue platform in varying amounts between September and March of 2020 according to Federal Election Commission records.
A felony conviction in 2002 is related to a fully automatic machine gun, and Routh has an extended criminal history. Public records show he is the Defendants in many court cases ranging from bad checks to tax delinquencies. He was charged with numerous violations over the course of a decade.
Routh spent his adulthood in North Carolina before moving to Hawaii. He owns a business that builds portable storage units and tiny homes on Oahu. His digital footprint depicts Routh as a disillusioned former Trump supporter who backs Ukraine in its war against Russia.
A license-plate reader system reported that the vehicle was on I-95, driving north toward nearby Martin County. The sheriff’s office in that county then pulled the Nissan SUV over around 2:14 p.m. and arrested Routh after the witness identified him as the suspect from the golf course, according to court records. Routh, 58, allegedly said that he knew why he was being pulled over; he was booked into the county jail.
Bradshaw says law enforcement then got a big break: “Fortunately, we were able to locate a witness that came to us and said, ‘Hey, I saw the guy running out of the bushes. He jumped into a black Nissan and I took a picture of the vehicle and the tag’ — which was great.”
Detection of the AK-47-style rifle in an area of Trump’s golf outings and a message to the Secret Service
There are backpacks on the fence that are next to each other, as well as an improvised sniper’s nest depicted in the photos. The suspect likely intended ceramic tiles to be armor against gunfire.
The center adds that an SKS-style gun was used in two high-profile attacks in the past decade: one at a baseball field where members of Congress played in 2017; and another at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado in 2015. The June 2017 attack on a Congressional baseball game practice in Alexandria, Va., left five wounded, including then-House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and two Capitol Police officers.
The criminal complaint against Routh said that the SKS-style rifle was designed prior to the AK-47. The guns have the same 7.62 x39 rounds and the same model, according to the Violence Policy Center.
Bradshaw noted that the suspect had a AK-47-style rifle with a scope and two backpacks which were hung on the fence, as well as a camera that he was intending to film.
While Bradshaw predicted that more security would be drawn to Trump’s golf outings, he also praised the Secret Service for how they dealt with the situation and said their agent did a great job.
The weapon was spotted in an area of the golf course where three holes — 5, 6 and 7 — turn a corner close to an intersection where two large roads meet: S. Congress Ave. and Summit Blvd.
After Routh was apprehended, local prosecutors filed warrants and a pretrial detention motion to ensure he would remain in custody ahead of likely federal charges, Dave Aronberg, state attorney for Palm Beach County, said on Sunday.
Routh’s cellphone provider offered data suggesting that he had been in the vicinity of the golf course encounter for nearly 12 hours, from 1:59 a.m. to 1:31 p.m., according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court on Monday.
Routh, who was represented by a federal public defender, told federal judge Ryon McCabe that he has no savings to pay for his defense. He wore a blue prison jumpsuit and said he has a son.
