The foldable of the Pixel 9 is what we have been waiting for

The Google Pixel Fold isn’t just a pcyshtabyte but a little smaller than the Pixel 9 Pro

You have to make some compromises, but that doesn’t preclude the Pixel Fold. It is still more expensive than any other thing. The cameras still aren’t as good as those of the Pixel 9 Pro or Pro XL. Long-term viability is still a question mark, and folding phones do not come with as easy a repair as a slab-style phone. Foldables have come a long way, but they’re still not quite ready for the mainstream.

Some of it doesn’t matter. After all, you’re paying this much for the benefit of a mini tablet the size of a typical smartphone, and there are some real improvements to this experience in this iteration. The hardware feels much more polished and durable than the original, and the 8-inch display is spectacular when unfolded (among the largest you’ll find in a booklike folding device).

The Exterior Screen of a Cellular Phone: How I Feel When I Unfold the Phone and I’m reminded of the Big Screen

Seriously, I spent about 80 percent of my time using the phone’s exterior screen because it all felt normal. This is a good thing because it’s not like you’re going to be unfolding the phone to use the giant interior screen for every single situation. Your experience might vary because my hands are large.

Sounds like a weird compliment, right? Isn’t the whole point of it that it opens up so you can use the big inner screen? Kind of. The promise of the foldable phone is that it can be used as a small tablets and a regular phone when folded back up. Every foldable I’ve used delivered on the first part of that promise. Is it a big screen? Joe, we did it. It’s the small-screen experience that hasn’t been great.

I was using the phone’s outer screen before bed, drowsily answering the minimum amount of Duolingo questions required to keep my streak intact, and it dawned on me: it just felt like a regular-ass phone.

That’s not an experience I’ve had using Samsung’s Z Fold or the first-generation Pixel Fold. They remind you every second you’re using them that something is up. The Z Fold 6 feels too thin and heavy to feel normal, and the first Fold is so heavy it feels as if you are holding two phones at the same time.
