In between their own competitions, and despite the pressure and their busy schedules, many Olympians have made it a priority to show up for their peers at the Paris Games.
The U.S. men’s basketball team beats Serbia and will play for Olympic gold in a repeat of the Tokyo gold medal game
The U.S. was behind Serbia for nearly all of the game. The United States trailed by 13 as the fourth quarter began.

France will play in the gold medal match after a 73-69 victory over Germany in the semifinals. France has never won an Olympic gold medal, despite getting three silver medals. The U.S. has won all but one gold medal since 1992, the first year professionals were allowed to participate. Argentina won the gold medal in 2004, but the U.S. settled for bronze.

Embiid’s comments on the France-Cameroon “no go” reaction at the BES Gold Cup
The US will have a pro-France crowd on Saturday, which will make for a hostile environment for the Americans in their gold medal match.
“With my family being in Cameroon, I don’t want to put them through any of that stuff,” Embiid said. “I want them to be safe, and the relationship between France and Cameroon or Africa in general is just not good.”
