Florida middle schoolers were accused of creating fake nudes of their classmates
The Florida teen is trying to stop the friend from posting fake nude images without a parent’s consent: a lawsuit against Issaquah High School
The rise of image-making tools has led to a number of high-profile incidents in which children created nude images and shared them with no parents’ consent. The police reports were filed, but no arrests were made in the cases publicly reported. At Issaquah High School, police opted not to press charges.
The first media reports of the Florida case appeared in December, saying that the two boys were suspended from Pinecrest Cove Academy in Miami for 10 days after school administrators learned of allegations that they created and shared fake nude images without consent. Several parents urged the school to expel the boys after learning about the incident.
Although nearly all states now have laws on the books that address revenge porn, only a handful of states have passed laws that address AI-generated sexually explicit imagery to varying degrees. Victims in states with no legal protections have also taken to litigation. A teen in New Jersey is trying to stop a friend from posting fake nudes.
The family of a child victim in a school shooting: An investigation into the incident, which was reported to the administrator and not the victim
Nadia Khan-Roberts, the mother of one of the victims, told NBC Miami in December that for all of the families whose children were victimized the incident was traumatizing. “Our daughters do not feel comfortable walking the same hallways with these boys,” she said. It feels like I’m taken advantage of. [of] and I feel used,” one victim, who asked to remain anonymous, told the TV station.
“The incident was reported to a school administrator,” the reports say, without specifying who reported it, or how that person found out about the images. The administrator spoke with the victims who said they did not consent to the images being created after obtaining copies of the altered images.
The parents of the boys arrested did not respond to a request for comment. The father of the boy that was being reprimanded said he had not made a comment. The detective assigned to the case, and the state attorney handling the case, did not respond for comment in time for publication.
