Where to place your order for the new S24, S235, and S235 Ultra
The SuperS23 Ultra and S24+: Upgrade promos and rewards for gamers who trade in a S24 Ultra and their Xbox Game Pass
The biggest of the lot is the 6.8-incher, and it ditches aluminum for titanium, which is a better material. The titanium skeleton is supposed to make it more lightweight too, but you won’t find much weight savings here over last year’s S23 Ultra. Also unique is the cover glass, which is made from Corning’s new Gorilla Armor, which the company says is its most scratch-resistant material to date. We’ll see. There’s a 5,000-mAh battery cell to match its size. It’s one of the few phones in the lineup that has a built in S Pen stylus, which can be accessed from the bottom edge of the phone. Like the S24+, it has 12 GB of RAM and starts with 256 GB of storage, but you can upgrade the storage to 1 TB if you need that much space. As for the cameras, it shares a similar 12-megapixel ultrawide and 3X optical zoom camera, but the primary sensor is a 200-megapixel camera, and there’s an additional 50-megapixel 5X optical zoom camera. This used to be a 10X zoom camera on its predecessor, so you’re losing out on the S23’s superior zoom capability here, but 5X zoom is likely more useful than 10X zoom in most situations.
Best Buy also has the same storage upgrade promotion, so make sure you take advantage of it. You can save up to $600 on the S24, or up to $750 for the S24+ and S24 Ultra if you trade in an eligible device. Best Buy is offering a $50 gift card and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate 1-month membership with every purchase of the S24. You can get a $150 Ultra gift card and a $100 S 24+ gift card.
The S 24 Plus has 12g of RAM and 512g of storage, starting at just under $1 million. You’ll also get a free bump to the larger storage model if you buy it from Samsung during the preorder period. Trading in your older phone nets you up to $650 toward your purchase, and you’ll get an additional $75 in instant credit.
You may be wondering where you can order one before their official launch later this month. No matter which carrier or retailer you choose, you will find nice pre-paid incentives.
WIRED: Unlocked and Unlocked Galaxy S21, Galaxy S22, Buds 2 Pro, and other smart software features for the Galaxy S7, 5G, and GALAXies
These smartphones have the usual slate of features like an IP68 water resistance rating, 5G connectivity, and wireless charging. The new Galaxies don’t support the new tech, but the current one does. Security updates and operating system upgrades are expected to be added to the seven-year promise from the company. There are a lot of smart software features available across the three phones, and we discuss them in greater detail here. Let’s look at how they are different.
You can upgrade your storage from cheap to high-quality at the same time, just choose the size you would like and you’ll see the lower price reflected. You also get a free $50 Amazon gift card (which you have to redeem yourself, so make sure you save the code). If you’re looking for a new wireless earphone, you can get a package of the Buds 2 Pro for $150 more than the regular price.
We here at WIRED always recommend you buy your smartphone unlocked. It makes it easier to switch between carriers and not have your phone locked to a particular network. Taking a locked phone to a new carrier requires contacting your carrier (or visiting their retail store) and jumping through a few hoops to make the device usable elsewhere. It is easier to use a data-only mobile phone when traveling if you go unlocked. When buying unlocked phones, you can usually find less bloatware installed, and unlocked phones get more software updates than locked ones.
Should you upgrade? If you have the Galaxy S23 or Galaxy S22, there’s no reason to upgrade. If you have problems with your battery, or have a problem with the screen, you are most likely fine with a Galaxy S21 too. If your S21 still makes you happy, it’s a good idea to save your cash and wait a year. Everyone with an older phone should upgrade; just know that they aren’t the only options. If you are not in a rush, it is advisable to wait for the next holiday sale event to see if the S 24 range of phones goes on sale.
There are other great phones. Phones are unnecessarily expensive these days, and Samsung is pushing prices toward the high end. You don’t need to spend anywhere near $800 to get a great smartphone. You can check out our guides for additional recommendations from prices that are much easier to stomach.
