Iran and Israel trade more deadly strikes in third day of conflict
The Israeli Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Weizmann Institute of Science (IRGC), a science institute and a refinery in Tel Aviv
Iran’s state media says Israeli missiles hit two energy facilities. In response, Iran bombarded Israel with missiles and drones, causing numerous casualties and damaging an oil refinery and a science institute.
On social media, Donald Trump said that the US had nothing to do with the attack on Iran, though he warned that the US would retaliate.
It marked the hardest night for Israelis since the start of the fighting, with at least ten casualties — including children — and hundreds injured, according to Israeli emergency services organization, Magen David Adom.
A boy and a girl were among at least six people killed when a residential building in Bat Yam, a suburb south of Tel Aviv, was hit by the deadliest strikes. Another 180 people were wounded and seven still missing, according to local police.
People ran for shelter and sirens blared as missiles hit the biggest oil refinery in the country in the north. Four women were killed in Tamra, an Arab town of around 35,000 people, according to the Associated Press. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, said that it had targeted Israel’s fuel structure in response to Israel’s strikes on its oil facilities in the south.
Several campus buildings at The Weizmann Institute of Science were struck, as well as 42 people, who were injured in the central city of Rehovot. The center said no one on campus was hurt, despite the extensive damage.
The rocket attacks of the Yemeni rebels and the regime of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Friday: Tehran’s nuclear program is a threat to Iran
The rebels of Yemen said they helped Iran by launching missiles at Israel. Israel’s military confirmed that the group also launched missiles at Israel on Friday, coinciding with Iran’s direct retaliation for Israeli strikes.
The Quds Force, an elite military and intelligence arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, were killed by Israeli strikes, as were the head of the Intelligence Organization.
The death toll in Iran from the latest explosions wasn’t immediately clear. The Iranian UN ambassador said at the weekend that more than 300 people had been wounded since Israel launched its attack.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called on both sides to “show maximum restraint” and Pope Leo XIV called for “sincere dialogue” after stating the situation between Israel and Iran had “deteriorated drastically.”
If confirmed, the strike would be the most serious blow to Iran’s military power since Israel launched a surprise attack last week targeting the country’s nuclear capabilities. Iran’s nuclear program is seen as a threat by Israel.
A day before the strikes, the U.N. nuclear watchdog declared that Iran wasn’t respecting its nuclear nonproliferation agreements. Iran reacted saying it would create a new uranium enrichment facility. Iran says its uranium enrichment program is for peaceful purposes.
On the issue of ceasefire, de-escalation, and destabilization in the Middle East, as suggested by the Omani foreign minister
On Saturday, the Omani foreign minister said on social media that the meeting was canceled. But he said “diplomacy and dialogue remain the only pathway to lasting peace.”
Mike Huckabee said on his Facebook page that the U.S. mission in Tel Aviv would remain closed on Monday after one missile hit the building. No US personnel were injured in the strike. Despite continued international calls for de-escalation, neither side showed signs it was prepared to enter talks.
The issue is not ceasefire, it is stopping those things that threaten our survival, we can accomplish it, and I believe we can.
On Monday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard warned more rounds of strikes against Israel would be “more forceful, severe, precise and destructive than previous ones.”
President Trump had renewed calls for Iran and Israel to make a deal but then said that they just have to fight it out.
Israel has a military spokesman. He stated that the Air Force achieved “full aerial superiority” over the skies of Tehran on Monday. He added that the military had destroyed a third of Iran’s missile launchers.
