NPR and PBS were funded by the federal government

The Correspondence Between the Public Broadcasting Networks, NPR, and PBS, as Revised by the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives

She thinks that it is important for the public media to be relevant in a time where there is a lot of coverage of different issues.

Trump has been attacking the two primary public broadcasting networks, NPR and PBS, on social media.

“Which viewpoints NPR and PBS promote does not matter,” the executive order says. “What does matter is that neither entity presents an accurate depiction of current events to tax-paying citizens.”

President Trump claimed on Monday that he was removing three members of the board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The corporation sued Trump on Tuesday, arguing that he doesn’t have the power to take these actions because of federal law.

NPR has more of a news focus, whereas PBS has less of a news focus. Both provide locally grounded content and reach more than 99% of the population, at no cost. And in many states and communities, the stations serve as a key component of emergency and disaster response systems.

The networks say they have been encouraged repeatedly by the agency and Congress to develop private financial support and have worked assiduously for years with the FCC to ensure that its content falls within FCC guidelines.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting receives federal funding. Congress allocated $535 million for the CPB for the current fiscal year – an amount affirmed in a recent stop-gap bill passed by the Republican-controlled U.S. House and Senate.

The heads of both networks spoke of their desire to provide nonpartisan news and programming to the American public in a hearing in late March.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting said that Congress fully funded theCPB budget through Sept 30, 2027 because of the two-year cycle.

The Star’s Dilemma: PBS’s Paula Kerger Queried About a TV Commercial Featuring a Performer in Drag

The story was written by NPR Media Correspondent David Folkenflik, and edited by deputy business editor Emily Kopp, Managing Editor Gerry Walsh and Managing Editor Vickie-James. No corporate official or news executive looked at the story before it was posted.

According to a report, the FCC Chairman Brendan Carr launched an investigation into PBS and NPR for violating FCC guidelines for airing commercials, but that the President and CEO of NPR said the broadcaster had worked with the FCC for decades to ensure compliance.

PBS’s Paula Kerger found herself queried about a video involving a performer in drag singing a variation on a children’s song for a young audience. (Kerger testified that the video was posted on the website of PBS’s New York City member station and never aired on television.)

Maher was assailed for her past political postings on social media and the network’s news judgment almost entirely based on tweets and stories that preceded her March 2024 arrival at the network by years.

The American Public Library: Keeping the Porn Out Of Your Home: Trump Orders End of NPR’s Federal Funds and Blocks Use of the Alien Enemies Act

Yesterday, at an event, Trump said he wants his national security adviser, Mike Waltz, to be his ambassador to the UN. This is the first big shake-up of top aides since the president began his second term. It happened after Waltz took the responsibility for inadvertently adding a journalist to a group chat where top officials discussed plans to strike Yemen. Trump stated on social media that he would make Marco Rubio his interim national security adviser. Rubio will also continue to do his job as secretary of State.

A federal judge ruled yesterday that Trump’s use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport immigrants from South Texas was illegal. U.S. District Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr., a Trump appointee, made the first of its kind ruling. Rodriguez stated that the president’s invocation of the act was contrary to the normal meaning of the statute’s terms.

Children are being exposed to an unprecedented amount of online pornography, much of which is violent and misogynistic. According to the study, the average age at which children first view porn is around 12 years old, and 15% of children watch it at 10 years old or younger. Researchers in the U.K. analyzed 50 pornographic videos and found that about 90 percent were directed at women. Scientists believe early exposure to this content may hinder children’s understanding of consent and respect in relationships. Here are a few ways that parents can keep violent porn out of their homes.
