Trump called Bezos after he heard of the Amazon post of import charges

Amazon Hide and Seek: Jeff Bezos’s Displeasure with the White House Press Secretary During the Trump White House Conference

Jeff Bezos now has to insist that Amazon display the tariffs on its website. None. Zero. If he doesn’t insist on it, he will prove himself to be among history’s least principled cowards.

The press secretary for the White House said she just got off the phone with the president and that it was hostile and political by Amazon.

“Amazon Haul store team considered listing import charges on certain products as a way of showing their prices at ultra low cost.” said Tim Doyle, Amazon spokesman. It was never approved and it is not going to happen.

Companies and economic experts say the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration could lead to higher prices for consumers in the US.

Responding to the article, he said consumers should buy products from the U.S. It’s another reason why we’re onshoring critical supply chains here at home to shore up our own supply chain and boost manufacturing here.

The Washington Post as a Freedom Fighter: Protecting Jeff Bezos from Ruling out an U.S. Presidential Candidate

Bezos has been seen as supportive of Trump. Amazon gave to the inauguration fund and Bezos attended the ceremony. Last year, the management of the Bezos-owned Washington Post declined to endorse a presidential candidate for the first time in 36 years. As NPR reported at the time, the announcement came after the newspaper’s editorial page editor had approved an endorsement for Trump’s rival, Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.

“We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets. We’ll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others […] I am of America and for America, and proud to be so. Our country wasn’t made by being typical. America has succeeded in the economic realm and everywhere else, thanks to its freedom. Freedom is ethical — it minimizes coercion — and practical — it drives creativity, invention, and prosperity.”

Well buddy, chaotic ChatGPT-designed tariff schemes that threaten to crush small businesses across the country are not “free markets,” the basic definition of which requires the market to set prices, not unhinged madmen who believe they run the world. I expect the Post to go full attack mode here since threatening your baby for merely showing price information is far from free markets.

What are the consequences of revenge, you might ask? Amazon is already doing things in the best interests of their shareholders, so shouldn’t Jeff do the same? Let’s ask Jeff — here’s what he wrote to readers in regards to how his wealth affects the editorial decisions of the Post, with my emphasis added.

It’s either my wealth and business interests are a bulwark against intimidation, or they’re a web of conflicting interests. Only my own principles can tip the balance from one to the other. I assure you that my views on this matter are principled and I believe I have had a positive impact on The Post since I bought it. You can make your own determination, but I suggest you look at the instances where I have prevailed upon anyone at The Post in favor of my own interests. It hasn’t happened.
