The top two picks in the draft are quarterbacks, but Deion’s son is still waiting
The Packers Prediction for the 2nd NBA Draft in Green Bay, Wis. The Packers are Landscaping Their First Two-Way Player
It’s been decades since the NFL had a true two-way player, in the style of baseball’s Shohei Ohtani — someone who plays a big role on the team on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
After the Tennessee Titans selected Ward first overall, the Jaguars moved up from No. 5 to select the Heisman Trophy winner with the second pick. Chuck Bednarik was the first full-time, two-way player in the National Football League when he joined the Philadelphia Eagles over 60 years ago.
There’s little competition for quarterbacks who are ready for the league. The Tennessee Titans might use the top pick on Ward in hopes that he’s their quarterback of the future.
The Packers are hosting the NBA Draft in Green Bay, Wis. The 257 total picks will be dispersed over seven rounds starting with the first on Thursday night. Rounds 2 and 3 follow on Friday evening, and the final four rounds take place Saturday. The draft will be shown on several networks.
Hunter’s Two-State Play at the Colteum: A New WR or CB? A Tale of Two Positions
That’s right, two positions. Hunter’s run at Colorado includes playing a majority of snaps on both offense and defense. And he’s a genuine talent in both positions: His 1,258 receiving yards were the fifth-most in FBS, the highest-level of college football. His 15 touchdowns were good for second. On defense, he snagged four interceptions.
Prior to the Super Bowl era, two-way starters were common, but they’re not anymore. Defenses usually appear in end zone plays.
According to NFL Research, only one player has started at both the CB and theWR in the same game multiple times over the past 45 years. Two-way play was pursued only for a single season. Otherwise, he was predominantly a defender. Hunter is now the head coach at Colorado.
Andrew Berry, a general manager for the Cleveland Browns, told reporters last week that if he were a pitcher or a hitter he would be an outstanding player. If you use him both ways, then you get a weird creature.
Cam Carter and Josh Simmons: How Cam and Ashton Jeanty Met his High School Years at the Collegiate College Football Hall of Fame
Cam Ward played his first two college seasons at Incarnate Word before transferring to Washington State. He considered entering the draft after the season was over. But last year’s class was loaded with top-tier QB prospects (including Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye, all of whom ended their rookie seasons as starters on their NFL teams), and Ward decided to stay in college for one more year and transferred to Miami.
He did not. Instead, Carter took the field and played like the star he’d been all season long, with a batted pass, two tackles for loss, and a key fourth-quarter sack that helped give Penn State a chance to take the lead. Carter looked like the best player on the field as Penn State lost the game.
ThePhiladelphia native looks like he’s going to be the top pass defender in the draft. Carter could be a day- one game-changer if he’s taken by the Giants at No. 3 or by the Cleveland Indians at No. 2.
The runner-up for the Heisman trophy was the powerhouse running back at Boise State,Ashton Jeanty. When Jeanty came to within 28 yards of the single-season rushing record, he generated a lot of excitement.
He’s very fast. He’s undeterred by would-be tacklers. As a back, he has excellent vision. He was delighted in the highlights after he shed tackles, pushed through contact and broke free for a 50 yard touchdown. He had 29 touchdown and 2, 600 yards in the final year of school at Boise State.
Now, he comes to the NFL at a time when running backs are making a resurgence. It was thought that it was a bad idea to spend a high draft pick on running backs, as they are often shorter than other positions, and they are relatively easy to replace.
But RBs are so back. Last year, the addition of Saquon Barkley turbocharged the Philadelphia Eagles offense and was a major factor in their Super Bowl run. Other teams will be looking to repeat that formula. Jeanty will go in the top 10, and only the second running back to get that high since Saquon was drafted.
Josh Simmons, an offensive tackle from Ohio State, was the first pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round.
The Minnesota Vikings Draft: Carson Backs are the Top Two NFL Draft Picks, but Deion Sanders’ Son is Still Waiting
“We all didn’t expect this, of course, but I feel like with God, anything’s possible, everything’s possible,” Sanders told family and friends at his draft party. I don’t think it happened for no reason. All this is fuel to the fire. Under no circumstance, we all know this shouldn’t have happened, but we understand we’re on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow is the day. We’re going to be happy regardless.”
Even though analysts had him rated higher than Ward, that was not enough to get the team to pass on him for a franchise quarterback. The New York Giants had two opportunities to take Sanders — who starred at Colorado under his father, coach Deion Sanders — and went with Penn State edge rusher Carter with the No. 3 pick, bolstering an already strong pass rush.
The Giants selected Dart hoping that he could become the Eli Manning of Mississippi.
Hunter is excited to go home to Florida. It means that they gave up a lot. It means they believe in me.”
Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron was selected by the Denver Broncos with the 20th pick. North Carolina running back Omekongan Hampton went to the Los Angeles Padres at 22nd after the Pittsburgh Pirates chose a player at the 21st pick.
The New Orleans Saints chose Texas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. at No. 9. The Chicago Bears selected a tight end in the first round with the 10th pick.
The draft was held next to Lambeau Field, for the first time, and commissioner Roger Goodell announced Ward’s name. The league’s biggest offseason event is being hosted by the smallest market as thousands of fans from around the country travel to titletown for the festivities.
Clay Matthews, of the Packers, and other former players, as well as hip hop star and Green Bay superfan Lil Wayne were among the guests at the draft.

The Jacksonville Jaguars Trade for Jameis Winston Ward and the Jacksonville ‘Girardards’ Samson for the First Time
“For many people the process of getting to this level is not easy but I have the same work ethic that I had when I first arrived, and God helped me make it to this point, even if it wasn’t easy.”
Ward had 39 touchdown passes, and finished second with 4,313 yards passing, while leading the Hurricanes to a 10-3 record. Ward also had only seven interceptions and completed 67.2% of his passes.
The trade gave Jacksonville a first-round pick, as well as picks 36 and 126, and a first-round pick in 2026. The Jags received two more picks in the fourth and sixth rounds.
Even though he hadn’t spoken to the team since the scouting combine, Hunter flashed a big smile when he was selected by Jacksonville. He made 35 tackles, breaking up 11 passes and picking up four, while catching 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdown.
The Packers made their rowdy fans happy, taking Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden with the 23rd pick. Golden became the first wideout selected by Green Bay in the first round since Javon Walker in 2002.
The Commanders drafted Josh Conerly Jr. and Maxwell Hairston, who went to the Bills and Raiders, respectively.
