DoGE’s access to employee records: a roadmap for illegal terminations in the tech industry and the EFF-Tech-Lemley case
It turned out thatDOGE’s access to employee records was one of the means by which they were trying to accomplish other illegal ends. They got a list of all the government employees so they could make an illegal offer. It gives them access to information about transgender employees so they can illegally discriminate against those employees. It lays the groundwork for the illegal firings that have been seen in multiple departments.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation is represented in the case by several prominent tech industry lawyers including Mark Lemley, an intellectual property and tech lawyer who dropped Meta from its lawsuit because he objected to the company’s work in the artificial intelligence field.
The information could be used to identify employees to be terminated because of improper considerations according to Noble. “There’s medical information, there’s disability information, there’s information about people’s involvement with unions.”
The Next Phase of Musk & Palantir: A Case Study of Silicon Valley Connections between a US Government CIO and a Government Employee
The team behind this most recent lawsuit plans to push even further. “This is just phase one, focused on getting an injunction to stop the continuing violation of the law,” says Lemley. The class action lawsuit on behalf of impacted federal workers will be the next phase.
Not every new CIO has close ties to Musk and Palantir, but all of them have deep Silicon Valley connections. The CIO is Greg Hogan, who is in charge of the US government’s HR department. Hogan has allegedly been an employee of a special government agency and not a full-time employee. Hogan previously worked at Comma. AI, a company that builds automated driving software. Musk allegedly floated a job offer to Comma. AI’s former CEO George Hotz in 2015 to work on self-driving tech, but the deal reportedly soured after Hotz claimed his self-driving tech was superior to Tesla’s.
The OMB has an information officer that is in charge of the performance of all federal agencies and administers the budget. Barbaccia’s LinkedIn shows that he’s spent most of his career in tech, including a 10-year stint at Palantir. The head of intelligence and investigations was what he was called when he left Palantir. Palantir CEO Alex Karp recently referenced the “disruption” of DOGE’s cost-cutting initiatives and said, “whatever is good for America will be good for Americans and very good for Palantir.” The company has billions of dollars in government contracts. Palantir shares hit an all-time high last week after a better than expected quarterly earnings report. Musk’s model Grok will be integrated with Palantir’s platform.
