The status of Guantánamo Bay, a facility for migrant internment camps in Cuba: Status of the Trump administration’s immigration push
The Trump administration said last week its plan to bring in 30,000 migrants to internment camps in Cuba would face many financial, political and logistical hurdles. The White House is moving forward despite the fact that some immigration experts say sending people to Guantnamo is in violation of the law.
The Department of Defense said that several hundred U.S. military service members have arrived at the base in preparation for deported migrants. The number of service members will fluctuate based on guidance from the Department of Homeland Security, who will oversee the holding facility.
“We’ve always had a presence of illegal immigrants there that have been detained. “We’re building out some capacity at the present time, we’re not finished,” Noem said.
“Due process will be followed,” she added, “and having facilities at Guantánamo Bay will be an asset to us in the fact that we’ll have the capacity to continue to do there what we’ve always done.”

Science shows it’s good for your health to stay on your toes. It increases blood flow to limbs, helps regulate blood sugar, and reduces mortality risk from prolonged sitting. The murder of George Floyd in 2020 made big businesses promise to fight racism and increase diversity. Corporate America is moving in a different direction of diversity, equity and inclusion. Last month, Trump signed executive orders to stop illegal DEI programs and policies in the federal government. Some DEI experts say businesses didn’t think through their pledges or costs from the start. The scrutiny may be a wake-up call and a chance to get it right.

The U.S. takeover of the Gaza Strip: Trump’s message on the “Riviera of the Middle East” and the move of the Agency for International Development
President Trump announced yesterday that he wants the U.S. to take over the Gaza Strip. He told reporters at the White House and Benjamin Netanyahu that he would take care of the bombs and weapons on the site. “Riviera of the Middle East” is what Trump suggested it could become. He didn’t rule out the possibility of deploying U.S. troops for the task.
The United States Agency for International Development will be placed on administrative leave. The new directive stated that agency staff must take a leave of absence by Friday at the latest. The note ended with “Thank you for your service.” The move came after Trump and adviser Elon Musk said they were about to close the US Agency for International Development.
