There were at least 22 people dead and hundreds of thousands had to evacuate as a series of fires broke out in Southern California on Monday night.

The Auto Fire in Ventura County burned 56 acres as of about 5 am Tuesday, according to the Cal Fire. The fire has led to a mandatoryEvacuee.

The NWS issued a red flag warning for the area because of the high winds and dry conditions that have fed the raging fires. The strong Santa Ana winds have helped push the deadly blazes through the Los Angeles suburbs, killing at least 25 people and leveling expensive real estate in Pacific Palisades and Altadena.

The environment is expected to remain very dangerous over the next 48 hours, favorable to very rapid-fire growth if a fire does start.

Late Monday night, the deaths of 21 people had been confirmed: 16 from the Eaton Fire and five from the Palisades Fire, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s office said. LA County Medical Examiner was investigating 24 deaths by Sunday evening.

The Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel Mountain National Monument, which were temporarily closed to the public due to the fires, will be closed through Sunday due to critical fire danger.

Sports are also providing support in other ways. All 12 LA professional teams will donate $8 million to wildfire victims.

Lakers coachJJ Redick, whose home was destroyed by the Palisades Fire, says it’s their job to give strength and hope. “Sports are a lot of things and sports can certainly provide an escape and a distraction and hopefully sports, and tonight, can provide some joy as well.”

Last week, fires postponed NFL, NBA and NCAA games featuring LA teams. The Clippers and Lakers resumed their seasons on Monday.

Beyoncé postponed a much-anticipated announcement originally scheduled for Tuesday, citing the devastation of the wildfires and donating $2.5 million to relief funds.

This year’s Academy Awards nominations were supposed to be on Friday, but have since been delayed twice. Hollywood stars and film production have been affected by the fires.

The Los Angeles Unified School District reopened most of its schools and offices on Monday, with limited activities, though some schools still remain closed.

Customers in high-risk areas are being asked to have a portable phone charge, flashlight, and extra batteries around so they can survive a possible 48-hour power failure.

Authorities are warning residents to monitor emergency alerts and take precautions to avoid starting any fires. Ensuring that trailer chains do not drag on the ground and never throwing cigarettes and matches out of a vehicle are some of the things that can be done.

The county itself may also take additional steps. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said Monday that it could be asked by local fire authorities to take preventative measures in certain areas while a red flag warning is in effect.

The NWS posted on their website that there arePDS Red Flag Warnings for the extreme of fire weather scenarios. “In other words, this setup is about as bad as it gets.”

There is a high risk of rapid fire growth in a large swath of southwest California that is under red flag warnings.

There is a high risk of fire throughout Los Angeles where firefighters are trying to contain many of the fires that have erupted in the past week.

“The good news is that for the last two days we’ve had no increase in acreage at the Eaton Fire and it remains estimated at 14,117 acres with 35% containment,” Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said of one of the largest fires.

The Los Angeles Firefighter’s Redux: “It’s time to think about how we can rebuild,” said Physica Bass

Los Angelesist reported on Tuesday that the weather was not as strong as they had expected.

The destruction was massive. Bass said that it was unimaginable until you actually saw it. Even so, she said, it was time “to begin to think about how we rebuild.”

Since the fires broke out last week, responders from across the U.S., Canada and Mexico have come to the aid of Southern California. “Yesterday, I also had the opportunity to meet with our international partners from Mexico to express our heartfelt gratitude for their assistance. The support from all around is absolutely remarkable, according to the LA Fire Chief.
