The House speaker votes after the FBI said the deadly New Orleans attack suspect acted alone

Jabbar, the Inclusive Driver of a Decay Truck that Came from the Avenues of Independence on New Year’s Day

The driver of the pickup truck who rammed a crowd in New Orleans on New Year’s Day was alone, according to the FBI. The agency backed off of an earlier statement that Jabbar was “not solely responsible” for the attack that left at least 14 people dead.

Christopher Raia, an FBI deputy assistant director with the agency’scounterterrorism division, told reporters at a press conference that they don’t believe anyone else is involved in the attack.

Raia said investigators are looking through five electronic devices, including two laptops, three cellphones, and interviews, but they have nothing to indicate that he was aided in this attack by anyone.

The FBI’s initial assessment of the attack has changed and it is more probable that there were additional suspects who aided the attack.

A police car was blocking the intersection of Canal and Bourbon streets around 3:11 a.m. on Wednesday, when Jabbar sped off onto the sidewalk. After crossing Iberville Street and Bienville Street, he crashed just before Conti Street. Two police officers were injured when he left the pickup and fired at them. The injured officers are in stable condition, police said in a Wednesday morning news briefing.

The New Orleans Shooting Revealed: A New Orleans Truck Attack at the Trump Hotel, in front of a Trump Hotel on Wednesday night

Bourbon Street, which was closed for an investigation, was reopened to the public on Thursday. A memorial for the people who were killed in the speeding rampage has been placed on the sidewalk near Canal Street.

The Sugar Bowl, a nationally televised game that is part of the college football playoffs, was going to take place in New Orleans on Wednesday night but was postponed until Thursday afternoon.

The governor of Louisiana said that the city was reinforced and that additional types of assets were deployed.

He said that he didn’t like giving specifics to the enemy because he didn’t like telling them what they got. “But I can tell you we’re in better shape than we were before,” Landry said. He said that the law enforcement resources are being utilized to finish the investigation.

Raia said said there is currently “no definitive link” between the attack in New Orleans and a Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas in front of the Trump Hotel on Wednesday, in which the suspect was killed inside the vehicle.

Abdelkader Jabbar: a U.S. Citizen and the First Term of the Senate sworn-in session

Jabbar, who was a U.S. citizen, was honorably discharged from the Army, according to the FBI. He also served as a Human Resource Specialist and Information Technology Specialist from March 2007 until January 2015 and then in the Army Reserve as an IT Specialist until July 2020, an Army spokesperson confirmed to NPR. Afghanistan was the place where he served for about 11 months. He was a staff sergeant in the service.

The FBI made clear on social media that there’s “no threat to residents in the area” after conducting a search of the home of Abdelkader Jabbar. The Texas Newsroom reported that a person that did not know the suspect by name described them as quiet and normal.

Today is the day that a new Congress will be sworn in. The first order of business is to vote for a speaker. Republicans must almost unanimously decide on a leader because they have a narrow majority. House Speaker Mike Johnson has the endorsement of President-elect Donald Trump, but he faces the challenge of some GOP holdouts.

A Life Kit for Budgeting in 2025: How Timothée Chalamet, Colin Firth, Lockerbie and House Speaker Mice Johnson discovered a deadly New Orleans attack

The FBI has more information about the person who planted bombs in Washington, D.C., on the night before the Capitol riot. The person who placed the devices is still being sought by the agency. The alleged bomber remains elusive despite authorities combing through 35,000 videos, conducting 1,000 interviews and sifting through 600 tips. For the first time, the FBI shared an estimated height of the person — approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall — as one of the details they hope will lead to the suspect’s capture.
