The Game Awards will take place in 2024

The Game Awards: A Mixed Year for Balatro, NPR, Yukawa, Elden Ring, and PS3/PS5 Exclusives

Game Awards, one of the world’s most-viewed award shows, is on December 12. The event is hosted by video game journalist,Geoff Keighley, and has grown more popular.

The other two games of the year are both action games based on Chinese literature and mythology, as well as the sequel to the game of the year, Elden Ring.

There are a few things to keep in mind before listing the full winners: NPR contributed ballots to The Game Awards, which helped pick winners, and an open online voting system.

It’s been a strong year for PS3 but it’s been a mixed one. PS5 exclusives are nominated for seven different things, including Game of the Year.

It’s a game like a single player poker with no risk, and you can think of it as a pleasure to gamble with. And compared to these other games, Balatro had an incredibly small budget, but has really been blowing up and has been playing all of its cards, right, and may actually take home the big prize this year.”

The Game Awards: A Tale of Three Robots, Two Dinners, and a Bottle of Sunshine for Grand Theft Auto VI and Borderlands

“I’m expecting a new trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, which is slated to come out next year. We’re also expecting new information about the new Borderlands game, which is a massive gaming franchise, even as the Hollywood adaptation of it flopped this year. The new game from the winner of the Game of the Year, it takes two, is going to be revealed. They’ll show off what they’ve been cooking. There is always room for surprises. And my guess is, come tomorrow morning, we will have a completely different set of topics to discuss.”

But it wouldn’t be The Game Awards without the Muppets. Garrulous grumps Statler and Waldorf co-opted frequent criticisms of the awards in a series of running gags. They said it was like the game commercials with award interruption, after one quick volley of announcements. “My Final Fantasy is for this show to be over” they said as the broadcast stretched toward its fourth hour.

Big-budget games stole the show. The ceremony began with a surprise announcement trailer for Elden Ring: Nightreign, a co-op spinoff to the 2022 hit. The studio head behind 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two also revealed the two-player adventure Split Fiction, out next March. Laura Bailey, the renowned voice actor who has done voice acting for numerous TV shows and movies, is showing off a game she and Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul are performing in. The show seemed fresh out of revelations, which is why the developers of The Last of Us dropped a cinematic trailer for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Nintendo, meanwhile, went home empty-handed after a night defined by sweeps, surprise reveals, fourth-wall breaks and celebrity appearances from the likes of Harrison Ford and Snoop Dogg.

“I was a kid in 1989, I got a gray box and there was a game packed in — it was called Super Mario Brothers and it was really, really great,” said Doucet. “I want to pay tribute to the company who really showed us innovation and quality consistently, and inspired us to make the game that we made.”

Players can run, jump, and blast their way through a cartoony galaxy to collect stranded robots. While the game celebrates three decades of Sony’s console history, Studio Director Nicolas Doucet credited Nintendo in a misty-eyed acceptance speech (though he avoided mentioning the competitor by name):
