But the shooting proved not to have lasting effects — especially because just over a week later, President Biden dropped out of the presidential race, eventually handing the torch to Vice President Harris. The race has been essentially deadlocked ever since.
The Butler shooting took place just two days before the Republican National Convention opened in Milwaukee, and it lent the gathering an ecstatic tone, as attendees celebrated Trump’s survival. For a brief period, it seemed that the event could reshape the race.
“The people, the senior leadership, the people who run the search algorithms, it is effectively a left wing propaganda machine,” he said of Google, which he alleged was making it harder to search for content about the Butler assassination attempt.
In an interview with the Full Send Show, he said that he was angry about the assassination attempt because he felt it had received too little attention.
He said at an Atlanta rally that they tried to bankrupt him because they couldn’t beat him politically. They tried to impeach him because they failed at that. They failed at that, so they tried to put him in prison. They even tried to kill him.”

The Secret Service has since increased security for Trump to a presidential level, and late last month Congress voted to boost funding for the agency by $231 million.
The Secret Service has come under heavy scrutiny for their security failures that allowed a lone wolf to shoot several shots at Trump, and then another man to shoot at him from several hundred feet away in West Palm Beach.
A recent Trump rally in Wisconsin was relocated because there was not enough Secret Service officers.
He claimed that the White House was not treating them well. Crowds are 20 times larger than any other crowd. We have the right to security. The White House makes it very difficult.”
After being asked about his return to Butler, Trump said that the White House was to blame.
The list also includes Trump family members, politicians, local sheriffs and other unusual additions. The Frog-X Parachute Team is a veteran-owned, extreme aerial demonstration team and their CEO will be at the event.
The looming question is what all those people — and especially former President Trump — will have to say about the shooting, not to mention last month’s apparent assassination attempt in Florida.

The Day After Trump Rally: What Have We Don’t Already Know About Donald Trump and the Shooting of Corey Comperatore?
All of this sets up the rally to be an all-day affair. Usually, doors have opened for recent Trump rallies three or four hours ahead of time. There is a full seven hours before Trump is set to speak.
On Friday, the Trump campaign team sent out a list of more than 60 special guests for the event. The family of Comperatore and David Dutch, who were both injured in the shooting, are included. (The other person injured that day, James Copenhaver, was not listed among the guests.)
President Trump looks forward to coming back to honor the victims from that tragic day, she said. “The willingness of Pennsylvanians to join President Trump in his return to Butler represents the strength and resiliency of the American people.
“I’m going back to Butler because I feel I have an obligation to go back to Butler. We did not finish what was supposed to be done. And I said that day when I was shot, I said, ‘We’re coming back. We’re gonna come back.’”
Beyond the references to the July shooting, Trump’s speech focused on many of his usual talking points, including putting an end to illegal immigration, the importance of fossil fuels to the U.S. economy (“We are going to drill, baby, drill!”) and his plan to turn the country into a “manufacturing superpower again.”
Elon Musk focused on Trump’s bravery: “The true test of someone’s character is how they behave under fire,” the billionaire entrepreneur said. One president couldn’t go up a flight of stairs and the other was pumping his fist after being shot.
Eric Trump accused his father’s political opponents of trying to kill him. “And it’s because the Democratic Party, they can’t do anything right.”
Speaking from behind transparent screens owing to heightened security, Trump honored Corey Comperatore — the man who was fatally shot during Trump’s rally in July — with a moment of silence. Bells tolled and tenor Christopher Macchio sang Franz Schubert’s “Ave Maria,” a piece often performed at funerals. The medical professionals who helped Trump were also thanked by the president.
“Exactly 12 weeks ago this evening, on this very ground, a cold-blooded assassination attempt was made against me and against the greatest movement in the history of our country,” Trump said. “But by the hand of providence and the grace of God, that villain did not succeed in his goal, did not come close. He did not stop our movement, he did not break out our spirit. He did not alter our resolve to save America from the evils of poverty, hatred and destruction.
