The Gaza War: Israel and the Gazan Redistricting Mission in the Light of Israel’s Fourth Congressional Report on the Gaza Strip

Israel reiterated its call, from the opening weeks of the war, for the complete evacuation of northern Gaza. More than a million people fled the south after earlier warnings but around 300,000 remain in the heavily destroyed north.

At least nine people were killed inIsraeli strikes in northern and central Gaza on Saturday. The Health Ministry in Gaza said that one in the north town of Beit Hanoun killed at least five, including two children. The house in the Nuseirat refugee camp was hit by another vehicle and at least four people were killed.

The Health Ministry in Gaza says almost 42,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the war. It does not say how many were fighters, but says a little more than half were women and children.

The military said that they were carrying out raids against Hezbollah. It said troops dismantled tunnel shafts that Hezbollah used to approach the Israeli border.

Israeli attacks on displaced families in the Corniche, Syria, border crossing the Masnaa Border Crossing and the Israel-Hamas war

The wind-flapped tents of the other displaced families are just steps from the luxury homes in the Corniche. “We don’t care if we die, but we don’t want to die at the hands of Netanyahu,” said Om Ali Mcheik.

“We were on the road for two days,” said Issa Hilal, one of many Syrian refugees in Lebanon who are now heading back. The roads were very crowded and difficult to navigate. We almost died getting here.” Children cried or groaned.

Associated Press journalists saw hundreds continuing to cross the Masnaa Border Crossing on foot, crunching over the rubble after Israeli airstrikes left huge craters in the road leading to it on Thursday. Hezbollah’s weaponry is believed to come from Iran.

At least six people were killed in a number of Israeli strikes in Lebanon overnight, according to the National News Agency.

Netanyahu said on Saturday that Israel had the right to defend itself and that it would respond to the attacks. He said ”we are not done yet.”

Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, told reporters in Damascus that “we are trying to reach a cease-fire in Gaza and in Lebanon.” The minister said some countries outside of the Middle East are putting forward initiatives.

At least 1,400 people have been killed in Lebanon and 1.2 million have been driven from their homes in two weeks. Israel says it aims to drive the militant group away from shared borders so displaced Israelis can return to their homes.

Israel has killed several Hamas officials in Lebanon since the Israel-Hamas war began , in addition to most of the top leadership of the Lebanon-based Hezbollah as fighting has sharply escalated.

The targets included a gas station on the main highway leading to the Beirut airport and a warehouse for medical supplies, the agency said. The long series of explosions that were set off suggests that some of the stores may have been hit.

In Beirut, airstrikes lit up the skyline and loud explosions echoed across the southern suburbs, known as the Dahiyeh, throughout the night, as Israel struck what it said were Hezbollah militant sites.

Thousands of people in Lebanon, including Palestinian refugees, continued to flee the widening conflict in the region, while rallies were held around the world marking the approaching anniversary of the start of the war in Gaza.

One person was stabbed and 10 others were wounded in a shooting at the central bus station in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba. Police did not identify the assailant but said they were treating it as a terror attack.

The attack came as Israel is on high alert ahead of memorial events marking the Oct. 7 attack, which set in motion a year of violent escalation across the region.

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip — The attack on the mosque in the Gaza Strip killed 19 people, the Palestinian officials said, as Israel intensified its bombardment of Gaza and southern Lebanon.

The Associated Press journalist counted the bodies at the hospital mortuary. Hospital records showed that the dead from the strike on the mosque were all men.

Israel’s “Front-Formation” of Hamas-Leading Militant Refugiation and the Occupation of Gaza

The military said Israeli forces encircled the town as war planes struck militant sites inside. Over the course of the war, Israel has carried out several large operations there only to see the militant group regroup.

Residents posted about the airstrikes and mourned their relatives on social media. Imad Alarabid said in a post that an airstrike killed a dozen family members, including his parents. Saeed Abu Elaish, a Health Ministry medic, said he was wounded and bleeding.

The home of a television journalist was hit by shelling and he was killed. The reporter in northern Gaza who died was Anas al-Sharif.

The military says it has expanded the so-called humanitarian zone in southern Gaza, urging people to head there. More than a half a million people are in tent camps with little to nothing in the way of food, water or toilets. Israel has carried out strikes in the humanitarian zone against what it says are militants hiding among civilians.

Hamas-led militants killed some 1,200 people in the Oct. 7 attack and took another 250 hostage. Some of the captives are believed to be dead, but around 100 are still being held.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said the area was hit by more than 30 strikes overnight, the heaviest bombardment since Sept. 23 when Israel escalated its air campaign.

Hezbollah said it successfully targeted a group of Israeli soldiers in northern Israel “with a large rocket salvo, hitting them accurately.” It was not possible to confirm the claim.

The widening conflict risks further drawing in the United States, which has provided crucial military and diplomatic support to Israel. In Syria, Iraq, and Yemen, Iran-backed militant groups have joined in with attacks on Israel.
