“Fleu Deux”: The Story of a Black Hole and the Joker’s Misfortunate (by Catherine Keener)
For many people, that shot solidified the Joker as a concept who spoke to their own frustrations with the very same kind of systems that failed Arthur. To Arthur’s lawyer Maryanne Stewart (Catherine Keener), playing up the Joker as a separate identity feels like one of the few ways they might be able to win their case. Arthur’s path to fame was caused by a killing spree that landed him in jail and led to his execution by the state, according to “Fleu Deux”.
After a number of years of trying to bring the Harley Quinn brand into the 21st century, it has been taken back to her roots by a new company called Folie Deux. She still brings colour and music into Arthur’s life even though she’s not a Psychiatrist for the city. The decision to cast Lady Gaga as one of the most influential and important characters in DC’s history was a great one. Gaga is not only left out of the narrative of the film, it feels as if she doesn’t have a clue how to use her talent outside of one musical fantasy sequence.
It isn’t that much of an issue, though they’re not really fun to watch, and it is hard to get swept up in them. Almost as soon as they began, they are over. The movie will take you back to Arthur’s bleak reality, which does not seem to be a good place to try to escape.
