Day 3 of the Democratic National Convention is a wrap. There were many twists and turns along the way while Tim Walz was accepting the vice presidential nomination.
Senior Democrats are looking to portray a picture of unity under Kamala Harris and disarray with Donald Trump, while reproductive rights was again a focus of the night.
Tim Walz drew a standing room only crowd when he got to deliver an address to the DNC.
Let’s go for the chase. Clinton stated that he was too old togild the lily. He said he was still younger than Donald Trump.
“In 2024, we have a clear choice: ‘We The People’ versus ‘Me, Myself, and I,'” Clinton continued. “We The People” is the theme of the Wednesday convention.
“We’re now so fired up, we can’t wait to leave here and do something, and what we’re gonna do is elect Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States,” she said.

The existence of my family is only one example of a situation that was impossible as recently as 25 years ago when a teenager in Indiana wondered if he would ever find a place in this world.
In addition to musical and comedic performances by the likes of Stevie Wonder and Kenan Thompson, Amanda Gorman delivered a poem to rouse the audience in celebration of Harris. He spoke of the audacity of hope as a way of thanking the people who voted in the election.
“I joined the Army when I was 17. In fact, I was too young to sign the paperwork. I had to ask my mom sign the paperwork for me because I don’t have bone spurs,” he said.
“We must choose courage over complacency. “If you want to vote, you need to get up and go vote,” he said. Despite our hearts being broken and we don’t know what to do, I know the importance of action. It is time to understand what it will take to win.
Former Georgia lieutenant governor, Geoff Duncan, joined a group of fellow Republicans to pledge their support to Harris.
Duncan said that he was an American and that he was a Republican. An American who cares about the future of the country than about the future of Donald Trump.
At the convention on Wednesday night, there was an appearance by one of them, who was making content but also speaking. She told All Things Considered that she doesn’t pretend to be unbiased, and instead sees herself as an activist.
Cecile Richards, one of the leaders of prominent advocacy groups, was one of the people who took the stage after her speeches.
“We cannot call ourselves a free nation when women are not free,” she said, speaking in detail about the challenges faced by those seeking reproductive care and abortion access in America.

An emotional Jon Polin and Rachel Goldberg, parents of Hersh Goldberg-Polin held hostage by Hamas in Gaza since Oct. 7, took to the podium calling for a cease-fire deal so that the 109 remaining Hamas hostages can return home.
Polin and Goldberg have taken to wearing a piece of tape with the number of days their son has been held captive written in marker and placed on their chest. Today it read: 320.
It’s important for people who are in the same party to work together and join forces for the remainder of the campaign. Swing state opportunities to reach persuadable voters in swing states can be opportunities to introduce the ticket to a broad audience.
That’s what Gov. Tim Walz, D-Minn., who Vice President Kamala Harris chose as her running mate, did Wednesday night before not just the crowd of the faithful in the arena in Chicago, but also to voters watching at home.

Democrats have a problem coming across as snobbery because they are more head than heart. When he was introduced as Harris’ pick, he showed that he has a common touch by what he said in his first speech. The ticket with Ivy League degrees is Trump-Vance and not Harris-Walz. Biden was the first president to not have an Ivy League degree.
Whether it was Oprah – someone who Donald Trump once said in an ideal world, he would want to be his vice president – Bill Clinton, Pete Buttigieg, Walz, or the handful of Republicans who spoke, Wednesday arguably was about appealing to undecided voters and persuadable independents and Republican to give them a permission structure to vote for Harris.
Oprah noted that she’s a registered independent and called on “all you independents and undecideds” to vote for Harris. “Decency and respect are on the ballot in 2024,” she said, adding, “Common sense tells us that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz can give us decency and respect. … Let us choose common sense over nonsense.”
Democrats have a lot of ideas that are mainstream, not as radical as the Republicans have tried to paint them, but such things as making housing more affordable, cutting the price of prescription drugs, providing meals for children in schools and standing up for abortion rights.
The speeches by Buttigieg and other people were definitely on display Wednesday night, and they will likely be in the Democratic presidential primaries in four or eight years.
The chant, “Thank you, Joe” seemed to have a double meaning. Thank you for what you did as president, but also, thank you for getting out of the race. Biden gave a stemwinder of a valedictory speech, but it also made clear why Democrats were nervous about his candidacy.
Michelle Obama’s husband said after her speech and right before his own that he may be the only person dumb enough to follow her. And that’s because she brought the house down. For the past 8 years, she has been keeping things out of her speech. She spoke of the benefits of wealth and of Trump trying to scare her about her and her husband because they were Black.
Many people have heard that Harris is the first woman to be president, the first Black woman and the first South Asian to do so. It would be a major historical feat. It is quite unusual to see a man rounding the edges of his spouse who is running for president. It is different than what Bill Clinton delivered for Hillary Clinton in the same year. He was not only a well-known former president, but the Clintons had one adult child.
The family of Emhoff was featured on a political stage and it showed a lot of new things. It highlighted an interracial marriage and the complexities of step parenting. Millions of Americans can identify with blended families because a significant percentage of marriages end in divorce.

The table has been set for Harris. She will be making a speech in front of likely the largest audience she’s had yet. It is an opportunity for her to keep her candidacy going strong. Can she deliver?

Harris has been mis spelled many times by former President Trump. At one rally in July, he said: “I couldn’t care less if I mispronounce it. I couldn’t care less.”
On the stage Thursday at the DNC, Harris’ niece, as well as her stepdaughter, and her goddaughter, talked about the vice president’s effect on them. And they vouched that she would serve the country with care and as an inspiring leader.
I didn’t always understand what I was feeling, like many young people. No matter what, there was no one who was more supportive of me than Kamala. She’s never stopped listening to me and she’s not going to stop listening to all of us.”
Her advice means everything to me. Whether it is pursuing my passions, making an impact, or finding hope when the world doesn’t feel so hopeful. She taught me that making a difference means giving your whole heart and taking action.”
As president, Harris would fight to improve the economy, protect the environment, and defend the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, according to all three.

“He spent a small fortune on full-page ads calling for the execution of five innocent young teenagers,” Sharpton said in reference to the Central Park Five, some of whom joined him on stage.
“On one side of this race is Donald Trump, a fellow New Yorker I’ve known for 40 years. He only once took a position on racial issues in that time.
“On behalf of everyone whose story could only be written in the greatest nation on Earth, I accept your nomination to be president of the United States of America,” she said. With this election, our nation has a chance to move past the bitterness, cynicism and divisive battles of the past.

Guns, race, climate change, and Donald Trump werethemes of Night 4, along with “joy” and “we’re not going back”, which have been throughlines of the convention.
Both Warren and Harris vied for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020. Harris dropped out in 2019 and Warren dropped out after a bad showing on Super Tuesday.
Following a video highlighting rising temperatures and the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (the landmark Biden climate spending bill), Interior Secretary Deb Haaland took the stage.
The first Native American woman to hold the role argued that an American president must lead the world in addressing climate change. The crowd was reminded by Haaland that the IRA was sent to Biden’s desk because of Harris’ vote in the Senate.
“Kamala Harris has lived a life like ours, she knows us,” Whitmer told the crowd. Donald Trump doesn’t know who you are. You think he understands that when your car breaks down you can’t get to work? No. His first word was probably ‘chauffeur.'”
“You think he’s ever had to take items out of the cart before checking out? Do you believe he’s ever been to a grocery store? The chauffeur is for that.

Democratic National Convention Night 4: Speakers in honor of the late-term congressman Martin Kinzinger, aka Harvey Giffords
Kinckler delivered a prime-time speech supporting Harris despite his opposition to Trump.
“The soul of the Republican party has been damaged by the former president, and I believe that he must have been aware,” said Kinzinger, the only Republican to address the DNC on the final day.
In a passionate speech to the convention, Florida representative Maxwell Frost stressed the stakes of the race, arguing Harris is the candidate to address climate change.
The 26-year-old is the first member of Generation Z to serve in Congress. The person waselected in the year 2022. He was involved in the gun violence prevention movement after the Sandy Hook mass shooting when he was in high school.
Giffords spoke to the crowd about her experience with gun violence after the family of the shooting victims spoke at the DNC.
“For five years I served in Congress from a swing district. Everybody called me a rising star,” said Giffords, who was joined onstage by her husband, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.
Giffords served in the House of Representatives until 2012, after an assassination attempt left her with a severe brain injury. Along with Giffords, 18 other people were shot. Six were killed.
