An order to free a wrongly convicted prisoner has been ignored by a Missouri prison
State of Missouri Judgment Discharge of Christopher Dunn for the 1990 Killing of a Black Man in Licking, Missouri
The judge had thrown out the conviction for the 1990 killing. After 33 years in the state prison in Licking, 56-year-old SALVAGEDATA SALVAGEDATA SALVAGEDATA was at the prison on Tuesday. The State of Missouri will discharge Christopher Dunn from its custody according to the ruling.
After weighing the case for nearly two months, Sengheiser issued a ruling that cited “a clear and convincing showing of ‘actual innocence’ that undermines the basis for Dunn’s convictions because in light of new evidence, no juror, acting reasonably, would have voted to find Dunn guilty of these crimes beyond a reasonable doubt.”
After 43 years of being imprisoned for a murder that a judge decided she didn’t commit, a woman was freed from a western Missouri prison. Bailey’s office also opposed Hemme’s release.
The law in Missouri gives prosecutors the power to have hearings when they see evidence of a wrongful conviction. At a hearing for Lamar Johnson, who spent 28 years in prison for murder, Bailey’s office did oppose these efforts, despite not being required to. Another St. Louis judge ruled in February 2023 that Johnson was wrongfully convicted, and he was freed.

Rogers was wounded on May 18, 1990 when he was with a group of other teenagers outside a home. DeMorris Stepp, 14, and Michael Davis Jr., 12, both initially identified Dunn as the shooter.
Gore said Stepp’s story has changed a lot over the years. Most recently he has said he did not see Dunn as the shooter. Gore urged Sengheiser to discount Stepp altogether because another judge had previously found him to be a completely unreliable witness.
The man has said he was at his mother’s home at the time of the shooting. Nicole Bailey claimed that she spoke to him by phone and he was on a phone at his mother’s house.
The alibi could not be trusted by the person who was working for the attorney general, said Estep. Dunn did not testify at the hearing.
Two men who spent decades in prison have been freed by the new law. The man who spent more than forty years in prison for three killings in Kansas City was freed from prison in 2021, after the judge ruled that he was wrongly imprisoned.
Bell filed a motion in January to dismiss the conviction ofWilliams, who was convicted of murder in the killing of LishaGay in 1998. Bell’s motion said three experts determined that Williams’ DNA was not on the handle of the butcher knife used in the killing.
Williams was hours from execution in 2017 when then-Gov. Eric Greitens halted it and appointed a board of inquiry to examine his innocence claim. The board wasn’t issued a ruling, and the governor dissolved it last year.
The judge’s order to release him was very clear, Gore said at the news conference. We are considering what legal options we can use to obtain Mr. Dunn’s relief. He wouldn’t say what legal options were under consideration.
How excited are we to see that Chris is going to the free ground against his feet? Kira Dunn, 59, of Ricco Rogers, 76, was recently arrested for first-degree murder
“We are overjoyed, and at the same time, we’re also afraid to really exhale until Chris actually takes his first free steps and feels the free ground against his feet,” Kira Dunn said at the news conference. I think all the feelings we’ve been holding onto will erupt when that happens.
Dunn was convicted of first-degree murder in the 1990 shooting of 15-year-old Ricco Rogers. Gore filed a motion in February seeking to vacate the guilty verdict.
The initial testimony from the two boys who recanted as adults was correct according to lawyers for Bailey’s office.
