The secret service chief told Congress that they failed

Why Did The Secret Service During the July 13 Assassination Attack Attack On Donald Trump Fails? An Independent Review of the FBI’s Investigation

It wasn’t preventable. The Secret Service had a no fail mission but it failed in the days leading up to the rally. “The Secret Service has thousands of employees and a significant budget, but it has now become the face of incompetence. ”

Guglielmi added that this could include using state or local partners to provide specialized functions or help reduce public exposure of a protectee.

NPR asked about security requests from the Trump campaign and the agency responded with a statement. The Secret Service will give protection to the former president for the rest of his life.

As investigators continue to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the attack, the Secret Service has said a new thing: They know who did it. A source familiar with the matter who wasn’t authorized to speak publicly told NPR that a drone was flown over the rally site inButler, Pa., hours before the event. The drone was on a programmed flight path, the source said.

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, in her first testimony before Congress since the July 13 assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, told lawmakers her agency failed in its primary job: to protect the nation’s leaders.

I think Director Cheatle should resign. Director Cheatle refused to tender her resignation in defiance. She will answer questions about how these events were allowed to take place from Members of this Committee today to provide clarity to the American people.

I cannot speak to the facts of Saturday’s event because it’s the subject of a criminal investigation by the FBI, as well as the subject of an independent review that the president has commissioned.

The panel includes Janet Napolitano, the Obama-era DHS secretary; Fran Townsend, the Homeland Security adviser to President George W. Bush; former federal Judge Mark Filip, who served as Bush’s deputy attorney general; and David Mitchell, the former superintendent of Maryland State Police and former Secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Homeland Security for the State of Delaware. Other experts could be named to the panel in the coming days.

I am grateful that the distinguished members of this independent review who will bring decades of expertise in law enforcement and security operations to this important investigation and I am committed to getting to the bottom of what happened on July 13,” Mayorkas said.

The FBI and Homeland Security investigation of the shooting site of the September 11, 2001, shooting in Washington, D.C.: Asked by President Basham at a White House rally

“I think it’s human error more than it is perimeter,” Pickle said. It’s avoiding the fact that there was not sufficient coverage to stop that from happening.

There will be some points at which mistakes were made for the rally. Basham said before such events, the advance agent for the Secret Service will be stood at the podium where the president is to get a full picture of what needs to be covered. At that point in the process, it was decided not to directly cover the roof from where the shot was taken.

“There was a breakdown in communications,” he said. It should have been someone on the roof because there was a breakdown in security planning. And I just don’t think there’s a whole lot of mystery about what happened here.”

The Homeland Security panel is leading a review as well as congressional probes, which are led by the Republicans in the House. The bipartisan group of the House Homeland Security panel will visit the site of the shooting in person in order to discuss their findings.

Cheatle and top FBI and Homeland Security officials were called for additional testimony by Mark Green. Cheatle hasn’t accepted the invitation yet.

“While the American people are still searching for answers, we have enough to know that Director Cheatle should no longer hold her position,” Green said. The committee has been working in good faith to get answers.

Cheatle did not like the claims the agency denied the Trump team requests for additional security.

Cheatle told lawmakers the agency is fully cooperating with the FBI’s investigation, congressional oversight and conducting its own internal review. She couldn’t answer most questions about the findings because they weren’t finished yet.

The hearing is expected to last many hours, with the concerns expected to be echoed repeatedly. It follows a growing list of investigations into the shooting and the Secret Service.

Denials of Magnetometers at 2023 Mar-Anth and Wildwood, South Carolina, and South Carolina Rallyes

This included several denied requests for magnetometers at public events, including a 2023 event in Michigan and Bronx County, N.Y., and Wildwood, N.J., rallies in May. The local law enforcement agencies in South Carolina were able to fulfill a request by the Secret Service to not have counterniper teams available for the July 2023 rally.
