Prime Day has some of the best TV and streaming device deals
A Big and Flashy TV for Smart Home Use: A Comparison with the New C3 Streaming Stick and the Amazon Prime Day Deal on 4K TVs
Shield TV Pro comes with extra storage and RAM so you can play more demanding games thanks to the extra onboard storage. It can also run as a Plex media server and offers two USB ports, so you can use it as a smart home hub.
The new streaming stick from Amazon is twice as big and faster than the previous one. It also now shows artwork when it is not being used and has a terrific selection of streaming apps.
The C3 has more processing power and new picture modes compared to its predecessor. It still offers a 120Hz refresh rate, low input lag, and support for FreeSync and G-Sync tech, along with other features.
Conventional wisdom says you should wait until Black Friday in November to get the lowest prices on a 4K TV, but Amazon Prime Day can offer some solid discounts during the summer months.
If you want to buy a big and flashy new TV, a smallish one for a kitchen or bedroom, or accessories that allow you to stream the best picture and sound quality in the world, we have something for you.
Paperwhite vs. Scribe, and other top picks for e-reading: Where’s the Kindle? Where are we going?
I was Team Paperback until I tried my first Kindle, and now you can’t pry it from my fingers. The Paperwhite is the best of the Kindle lineup and our favorite e-reader overall. If you don’t want to spend more, then lockscreen ads don’t interfere with reading, even if they cost you $20 more. There are two main versions of the Paperwhite, the base and the Signature Edition, which come with 32 gig of storage, wireless charging, and an auto-adjusting backlight. A kids’ version with a case, a year’s subscription to Amazon Kids+, and a two-year, no-questions-asked replacement guarantee are also included. We are uncertain when a new Paperwhite will be coming, but I am still performing as I did on the first day. We feel that it’s still a good idea to buy one.
The Paperwhite is the best for reading. The Scribe has a 10.2 inch screen, so it’s perfect for drawing and writing. It’s a Kindle at heart, so reading is seamless, and there’s no lag while writing. Professional artists will want something better, but it felt natural to use. The premium pen version with its eraser on one end costs $30 more, but it’s the Scribe that is pricey. Since the book is waterproof, you can’t write directly on the page.
If you’re a fan of Amazon Prime, you might consider buying the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. Anyone can use it, of course, but it obviously heavily promotes Prime content. It has 16 gigabytes of storage, which should be enough for all your streaming apps and games. You can pull up your security camera feed and ask Alexa to do things, like order you pizza.
Unless you want to buy one for Prime Day, we recommend you not buy one from Amazon. If you only plan to do basic work tasks, like email, and watch Amazon content, then Fire tablets are fairly capable and frighteningly affordable. The Fire HD 10 is our favorite of the bunch, with a 1080p screen and 3 gigabytes of RAM so it can handle watching videos and browsing a bunch of tabs. Like with Kindles, you have to pay an extra $15 to get rid of lockscreen ads. There are 32- and 64-GB models available.
