Biden tells staff that he is in the race to the end
Reply to Doggett’s Call for Action on the Biden-President’s Delay and Implications for Electoral Integrity
Democratic strategists have pointed out that Democratic incumbents in key Senate contests have been outperforming the president in polls for weeks. If some dramatic changes to public and internal polls occur within the next few days, more calls could come from Democrats in swing districts who are seeing the same dynamic.
Voters are ready to punish the House Democrats in November for covering up and lying about the president’s condition, because they remember House Democrats were complicit in it.
Jack Pandol, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, said that the Democratic caucus spent every day after the debate in witness protection too afraid to say what they thought.
The House GOP criticized most Democrats for keeping their opinions mostly to themselves, or in background quotes to journalists.
Golden wrote, “Democrats’ post-debate hand-wringing is based on the idea that a Trump victory is not just a political loss, but a unique threat to our democracy. I do not agree with the premise. I refuse to join a campaign to frighten voters with the idea that Donald Trump will end the democratic system.
“He clearly has to understand … that his decision not only impacts who’s going to serve in the White House the next four years, but who’s going to serve in the Senate, who’s going to serve in the House, and it will have implications for decades to come,” he said.
Biden is under pressure from some in his party to withdraw from the presidential race because of his poor performance during the debate with Donald Trump.
President Biden told campaign workers on Wednesday that he is not quitting the race, despite calls for him to step down over last week’s disastrous debate.
Asked about Doggett’s call, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that he was entitled to his opinion. “It is a big-tent party,” she said. The campaign did not reply to the request.
Jean-Pierre said Biden spoke on Wednesday with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and has also held calls with Senate Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn, and Delaware Sen. Chris Coons.
The epoch of recovery: Nancy Pelosi’s last chance for a president has come a long way, but he needs to be honest with himself
The House Democrats were confused about how to respond to the president’s bad performance, but didn’t say he needed to step aside. But five days later, a new CNN poll showedmost voters think Democrats have a better chance with another nominee, and there are signs some Democrats are more willing to break with the White House.
Top congressional democrats like Nancy Pelosi pledged their support for Biden on the air over the weekend.
But on Tuesday, Pelosi’s tone appeared to shift, and she opened the door to other Democrats to raise concerns about the president’s ability to continue.
“I think it’s a legitimate question to say, is this an episode – or is this a condition?” Pelosi said in an interview on MSNBC. “When people ask that question, it’s completely legitimate — of both candidates.”
A White House press secretary said “he had a cold and a bad night” when asked about Pelosi’s comments.
The four years he has been in is one of the great presidencies of our lifetime. But I think he has to be honest with himself. On CNN, he said that he would have to make a decision.
The House Democratic Conference Room ”I’m in this race to end,'” Sen. Joe Biden told lawmakers after the biden convention
House Democrats were considering their options after Biden’s poor performance, and held a meeting Wednesday evening to talk about it, a source said.
The campaign all-staff meeting was attended by Biden and Harris, a person on the call said.
Harris, who has been seen a likely contender should Biden withdraw from the race, told staffers, “We will not back down. We will follow our president’s lead,” the source said.
But with the fate of Congress also up in the air, congressional Democrats appear to be nervous at the prospect of the president remaining on the ticket.
Separately, a House Democrat told NPR Biden “seems to be continuously declining and we’ve still got four-five months, and folks are worried there will be a decline and if something catastrophic happens … after the convention then Democrats are really screwed.”
The House Democrat said members were generally in two camps: those who still support Biden and those who want him to withdrawn from the presidential race.
Biden’s supporters were upset at campaign advisers who put Biden in that position, and urged a campaign shake up, according to this member.
Those who want Biden to withdraw believe “it’s too risky, the stakes are too high to risk that something happens to Joe Biden after the convention, in September or October,” the member said.
The member said the GOP would block us from replacing him and that they were scrambling for a nominee. After the convention it gets more difficult.
But the lawmaker acknowledged that replacing Biden would be difficult. It would be difficult for someone with a clear name to be part of the Democrats.
The lawmaker said that a small percentage of people want to go with the devil rather than the other way around.

Preparing for Biden’s Fourth of July Reconciling with the Post-Breakdown Phase of the White House
The White House chief of staff held an all-staff call. He also acknowledged the tough times, and said it was important to focus on their work and support each other, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters.
The White House blamed it on a cold and bad night. On Tuesday, Biden told donors that a punishing travel schedule through many time zones was to blame. He had gone to Europe twice in two weeks in June, and also spent time at a Los Angeles fundraiser.
This week, he has a steady stream of events that will provide the public additional insight into whether the president can move past the headlines surrounding his debate performance.
The Fourth of July will be celebrated on the National Mall with service members and their family. On Friday, he’ll be campaigning and giving an interview to George Stephanopoulos. Next week, he will host NATO leaders in Washington and give a solo press conference.
