On July 24 Netanyahu will address a joint session of Congress
The Netanyahu-Bislem War and Israel’s War With Hamas: Why Israel Defended and How Israel Willed It
The Democratic lawmakers critical of Netanyahu’s strategy are not expected to show up. The senator from Vermont said that the prime minister was a war criminal. I certainly will not attend.”
Netanyahu said in a statement that he was moved to have the privilege of representing Israel before both houses of Congress, to present the truth about our just war against those who seek to destroy us and the whole world.
The attacks of October 7th shocked the world and forced your country into a fight for it’s very existence. We are in disagreement with the leaders of Hamas who endanger regional stability by holding American and Israeli citizens captive.
Late last week, Biden announced a proposed agreement to end the fighting in Gaza, putting growing pressure on Netanyahu to accept the deal. Many Israelis have been urging him to embrace the terms, but his far-right allies have threatened to leave his coalition government if he does.
The second phase would include the release of all remaining living hostages, including male soldiers, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. The third phase calls for the start of a major reconstruction of Gaza, which faces decades of rebuilding from the war’s devastation.
There could be new elections and scrutiny of security failures that led to the war if he lost the prime minister post.
President Joe Biden and the leader of the Jewish state have been at odds in recent months, and Netanyahu is visiting the Capitol as a result. The Israeli government has been criticized by Biden for not allowing more humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Schumer said that he has “clear and profound disagreements” with Netanyahu, as well as joining the request for him to speak because of America.
WASHINGTON — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to address a joint meeting of Congress on July 24, setting the stage for what is expected to be a contentious speech at a crucial moment for the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
At the end of May, four of the top Congressional leaders extended the formal invitation to Netanyahu, noting that the Israeli president addressed Congress last year.
The letter invites the Israeli leader “to share the Israeli government’s vision for defending democracy, combatting terror, and establishing a just and lasting peace in the region.”
The speech is expected to be disagreeable. Some congressional democrats will not attend the address over the way Israel has handled its war against Hamas. Those protests will further highlight the divisions within Congressional Democrats over support of Israel.
The announcement came a week after President Biden said that Israel had offered a plan for a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza.
The Israel issued a statement saying Netanyahu authorized a proposal to return the hostages to Israel, but that the war wouldn’t end until all of the Israeli government’s goals are achieved.
